Anyone recomend a new host for me website? UK based prefered

[link to this post]

I have been a twocows website user for many years, I have a domain name registered to me and the site is hosted on remote servers. A year or so back Twocows sold all their web based stuff to Web.com, who to be honest with you, are problematic. Mostly it is poor server response when I use the Admin page, but now the price has gone up (again) and is 80 dollars. They also want me to ring a US number to pay by credit card!

So, time to change, preferably to a UK based opperation. This is what I have:

Currently I use Site Builder to create my site. This online software is provided by Web.com, it's simple, makes cheap looking websites, but suits me for the moment. The also provide the following:

80 GB of Web Storage
1 TB of Monthly Transfer
Server Redundancy (for increased reliability and stability)
A new version of Sitebuilder
AWStats (so you can track your sites effectiveness)
Enhanced Security Controls

Not sure what some of this does, but I do like the 80gb storage, although I could probably get by on less, same story for the 1tb monthly transfer, if needs be, I could get by on less.

So, I need a UK web host (or whatever it is called - not good on the terminology here so please forgive me if I am naming apples as lemons) that provides Site Builder, or something like that, and can transfer and use my old .com domain name.

Ideally it would allow me to create the site using Site Builder and then link to it, if you see what I mean.... Or swap to the domain name. Or move it across, or whatever the hell goes on...

Heeellllllppppppppppppp....

Do you have any idea how much storage you use, 80GB seems very high?

Just checked.... Promise you won't laugh?

Total disk space used: 93,806 k

Doh!

I mean I do want to upload some audio and video files there as well, but probably it wouldn't evey exceed 10 gig....

That makes more sense.

As a first move I'd suggest you try the £9.99 Silver package from http://www.dream-hosting.co.uk/

I suspect that the account you've had is one of those with massive headline numbers for storage and transfers but which soon rejects you if you use much of any of it. Or you are running a huge website.

Looking at the web.com website they appear to sell accounts with unlimited everything (but presumably a weighty FUP hidden somewhere to limit stuff). Unless you go to a similar UK host you need to actually find out how much storage and bandwidth you are using. Storage would be the peak usage, while bandwidth would be the monthly total.

Historically on this site there have been lot of recommendations for www.nethosted.co.uk. Several ISP resellers that are often on here also do (or come from) hosting, Eg. www.Xilo.net, www.Vivaciti.net

Without knowing your actual requirements its hard to say much more, and you will struggle to pick the hosting.

Just seen your other post - took too long writing this one! So you are using less than 100MB of storage and 116MB or 356MB of bandwidth. Thats much more reasonable! Eg. Even the Basic plan at nethosted could swamp that at £35 for the year.

I wish I could make money out of writing!

I reckon you could construct that site quite easily with the tools provided by dreamhosting or any of the other sites recommended here.

Good luck.

I would recommend going to the nethosted community forums and post in the presales area and ask there. If nothing else it will show the support response time.

In reply to a post by Eddie_951:
currently my site looks like this:

www.paulekert.com

Personally I would use wordpress instead of a site builder for that type of site smile
