do you want learn how to build a website from scratch?

or do you just want to create a website? if so then there are plenty of "Content Management" systems that would be a good starting point. A lot of webhosts will install some from control panels

If all you want is to produce a website - then I would suggest one of the content managment systems such as phpnuke or joomla (my host also lists Drupal, Geeklog, Mambo, PHP-Nuke, phpWCMS, phpWebSite, Siteframe, TYPO3, Xoops, Zikula as Content management systems it will install) might be easist way - you will probably need a webhost (e.g. nethosted ), preferably one that has a control panel to install the content management - as most ISP freespace doesn't have php & mysql options. I not sure which is best as I build websites from scratch.

If you want persist with doing it yourself - then threads such as this will give you other packages that might be easier to learn - search this forumn for Dreamweaver as it is usually mentioned in such threads (but is several hundred pounds so not usually worth buying unless you do it professionally) - you might also want to consider a good book on html & css - but I suspect it might be a steep learning curve

Check out WordPress. This is a pretty neat content management system that most webhosting companies will provide pre-installed. It enables you to build themeable websites with no coding at all. By default, it is set up for creating weblogs but there are loads of plug-ins for creating all sorts of sites, even fully-working e-commerce sites.

Edit: WordPress provide free hosting for their CMS. You can have a site up-and-running in minutes.
