Have I just made a grave mistake choosing Ace?

[link to this post]

Well, I moved to Ace after hearing all the good feedback from users all over the net, praising them for speed, qiality of service and support etc. Now all of a sudden I am reading HUGE amount of negativity towards Ace Internet and people talking of "jumping ship".

My connection went live today and so far my speeds are half of what they were with Virgin... 60kb/s as opposed to 120kb/s.

I also stupidly (considering i'm a techie by trade and how well I usually research things) thought that I was getting a non-ADSL MAX based service due to my line not being amazing (was limited to 1MB with Virgin) and now see my router is synching at 2.5MB... though I will be limited to 2MB after the 10-day period under the T&C.

WIll I likely be seeing much faster speeds soon, say 200kb/s or more if i'm on 2MB ADSL MAX? If I get a constant <1MB then there is no way I am staying with this ISP, I NEED 100kb/s+ for gaming etc. Are people experiencing stable connections with Ace? I also feel a tad cheated at Ace Internets insistence that it would stay unlimited despite wise words from users maintaining that they cannot possiblystay so.

I'm not fussed if I don't get true unlimited GB/month, I just want a sensible limit if caps are introduced, say 40gb+.

I left Virgin.net in the hope of finding a better and faster ISP. Please someone re-assure me that everything is going to be OK... my speeds will get better... and we will have world peace sometime soon...

No I don't think you have made a mistake despite the problems right now.

Only time will tell of course, put it this way the service was superb until last Friday - flawless to be exact.

Some will chip in and say otherwise sure, that things are all over but how do they know? They don't of course. So you as the customer be the judge, isn't that always the best way?

Everbody suffers problems - you should have been at Eclipse of late, you would have been bald by now! Of course I could be totally wrong but I say give them a chance to put things right.

Well I guess the next month will be the telling point... i'll give them a months usage and see where we end up.

I really have my fingers crossed...

But my download speeds should rise a fair bit at the end, right?

I'm not with ace, but unless you are a total addict or it totally stops working all together, I would suggest you give it a few months. We just went through a difficult patch at enta and I think many ISPs are wrestling with some very real economic constraints.

The reality is that if you want to be a 24/7 P2P or NNTP user, you probably need to get an office account. It seems these days that this is the last frontier of truly unlimited use, but it will cost you.

Not laughing at you guys believe me. Just the fact that i was right in listening to the sceptics and not joining myself. If you think the restrictions are a temporary measure the you are deluding yourselves. The limits are here to stay for Ace customers albeit speed restrictions or caps.

Yes

we have all been lied to again, seems prety common and expected of Isp's these days
just as bad as Chrisw from Evolution in my view.

His buisiness plan allowed for unlimited use my foot
