Gaming Ping

[link to this post]

Hi, I currently live in Plymouth in the SOUTH WEST of UK.
At the moment my ISP is virgin cable who i have been with for several years (previously blueyonder etc etc).

I play a lot of online games such as Counter-Strike, when i first purchased the internet package i got an average of around 12-18 ping on UK servers. However recently, these pings have been fluctuating heavily especially during peak times to around 40-50, i also know some people that have around the 140 mark.

Now my question: What ISP generally is the best for ping in online games in the south west. Is it better to get ADSL or CABLE + if choosing the ADSL option obviously i would want to remove Interleaving as that would approx half my ping. Just wondering whether you have any suggestions for a good ISP.

Thanks in advance

Pete

I'm on NewNet without interleaving and this is a 'ping' to Jolt I have just done:

ping www.bbc.co.uk

For comparison, I'm also on Newnet but with interleaving on:

Reply from 82.133.85.65: bytes=32 time=32ms TTL=56
Reply from 82.133.85.65: bytes=32 time=32ms TTL=56

Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

Thats why I left TalkTalk. Pings started off OK but at peak times would be 150Ms or more to UK servers. I am now on Plusnet and get sub 20ms pings for BF2142 etc. I would be carefull though if you plan to do alot of P2P as the put P2P traffic at a low priority.

And their customer service is quite frankly shocking.

Last week I got an email stating that they'd replied to a ticket I had raised and I should go to the portal to see the details. The ticked was raise at the beginning of NOVEMBER, and I moved to another ISP in DECEMBER (their lack of response to problem reports being the final straw that made me jump ship).
