Good BB provider (for the 1000 time I'm sure)

My mum just lost her broadband after Biscit went down the pan, and now she needs a replacement provider.

Her requirements are:
Unlimited downloads
Speedy, but not overly speedy (2mb would do fine)

How much does she actually download per month? Unlimited packages will either have a FUP or cost much more than capped packages.

For generous off-peak allowances have a look at one of the Entanet resellers - Aquiss, Freeola, ukfsn, Vivaciti.

ukfsn do 30GB (+ 300GB off-peak) for

'unlimited' is a word which to all intent does not exist anymore when used in connection with ISPs.

If your mum is anything like my mum then you will not need 'unlimited' in any case. My mum's yearly bandwidth requirements are about 12-14Gb.

My main requirement for my mum was stable, reliable & fast connection ie 2Mb and not crawling along at 300kbps between 5-11pm. Basically, I wanted an ISP to compete on quality not price.

In respect of your choices ie Tiscali, Pipex and Virgin/NTL/Blueyonder/whoever, I would rather have a frontal lobotomy than subscribe to the first two, NTL I don't know.
