Fast.co.uk : Also on top at DSL Zone UK

[link to this post]

Fast .co.uk has been the top ISP at ISP Review for a while now.
DSL Zone UK have at lat sorted out problems users have been having rating Fast.co.uk, are now at the top here also.
http://www.dslzoneuk.net/isp_ratings.php

It goes to show that small reseller ISPs run by knoledgeable owner/operators (and therefore higly motivated) can indeed compete with the big boys.

compete in the opinion poll stakes ? there seems to be a sub-culture of getting your ISP top of these league tables, I'm not sure it tells us much objectively about the service other than it retains a group of loyal fans.

There also seems to be a 'sub-culture' of getting your ISP to the BOTTOM of these league tables. Does it not show the failure of many ISPs to retain a group of loyal fans?

... And I would also personally require a larger representitive poll-group than the 27 TOTAL votes for the company since the company started before I placed much reliance on its "chart position" ONLY.

(The way DSLZone apparantly works is that a straight 25 x votes with a 10-rating (or nigh-on) would place it at the top of the league ahead of companies with a much higher quantity of overall ratings, as there seems to be no 'average score weighting' relative to the actual percentage of votes cast).

For example, my own vote for Entanet some time ago was number 25 ... which instantly took Entanet from an "Uncharted" ISP, straight up to the "Top 5" of the Charts.

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

Surely people just use such websites to get a little bit of background and follow that up with other research, including calling the ISP to see what responses are like, looking at the packages they offer to see if they're sustainable, and what you want, then calling the ISP again with any questions that research has bought up?

When I moved ISP I used here, ispreview, DSLzone, google and most importantly my telephone to determine who I wanted to choose

such transient small sample self selecting things risk becoming a mouthpiece for fan clubs and for disaffected users just hit by an FUP, price rise etc. They have the potential to be wholly unrepresentative. Having seen postings encouraging people to push their ISP up the page it is clear that there is a battle of the fans that may not reflect the state of play on the pitch.
