Bethere New house don't know phone no. Big Problem

[link to this post]

Hi All,

I wonder if anyone else has been in this situation with Be.

I moved house last week and would like Be broadband. Their website says it is available in my area. I believe the phone was previously Bulldog but I obviously don't know the phone number (the days of moving house and finding the number written on the rotary phone are long gone). Anyway I phoned Be and explained the above.

1st Attempt.
Be is not available in your area.

Seemed odd so I thought I would try again

2nd Attempt
Yes, Be is available in your Area, what's your number? I explained again that I had just moved into the house and didn't know the number. This was the 2nd time since I explained it to him before I gave him the post code. He said no way without having the phone number to give him.

Now when I last moved house I moved into a new conversion of an old building and Bulldog had no problem connecting it even though it had never had a line connected.
So I thought I would try again.

3rd Attempt
Got the above, yes to postcode no to no number. I said, well the line is connected to a BT exchange I just don't have the number. His reply was that you need to sign up to BT because it's need for the voice calls [hhmm. I guess he doesn't know what LLU is then..]. I asked to speak to his supervisor because it seems like nonsense to me that anyone that moves house has to be contracted to BT just to leave again and pay them their new fee for leaving early to then join Bethere and the same with moving from another LLU. Anyway, same response but done more sarcastically than the last guy, with crackers like if it's connected to a BT exchange then you should be able to give me the number.

So anyone been able to get Be when moving into a different flat?

Cheers

John

SO then you need a telephone contract. With BT.

I think he is half right. You can get like half unbundled or something where your voice is still connected to bt equipment. Yarwell or someone will no doubt correct me if im wrong.

Cheers .

I'm glad no-one thinks that it is crazy that to join Be after moving house you have to join BT then move providers instead of them just connecting you directly. Let's face it if your not on cable then the end of the copper is in a BT exchange.

Hmm, I wonder why BT are introducing their new contract on the 1st.

It would seem to be a major flaw in LLU for Be (though no Bulldog, which will connect a new line if required).

All work in these exchanges is done by BT anyway.

You've got to wonder, or not it would seem.....

You aren't making sense. BE clearly state that you must have a BT line to receive their service. Bulldog is not a BT line.

Info for the OP. Fully unbundled lines carrying both phone and BB to a non BT provider are only supplied by TalkTalk and Bulldog AFAIK. They take over the entire BT line.

The rest of the LLU brigade use BT for phone service (or a BT CPS override) and their own BB equipment. This service needs a shared BT line hence the common requirement for BT line rental. Alternatively the line rental is collected on behalf of BT. The latter should be referred to as shared MPF (metallic path facility) and the former as full MPF but often is not.
