HELP: WHICH ADSL BROADBAND COMPANY TO GO WITH?

Hi, my parents have moved homes and its time to get a new ISP. We are unfortunately in a non-cable area but can use ADSL at a maximum speed of 1.5Mb (as accurate from the BT broadband speed checker - but I am not convinced it'll even exceed 1Mb)

General requirements we are looking for are:
Speed: 1MB broadband solely or do the upto 8MB thing

I've read both good and bad things about Fast4, same as every other ISP really.

I know they do have a more liberal attitude towards usage limits than other ISPs, but I wouldn't say they were "unlimited". If someone hammered their connection to 1-2 terrabytes every month, im pretty sure that they would say something.

I think they charge a hefty "leaving fee" if you leave within the first 12 months, even though they say there is no annual contract.

well the link to the Eclipse forum you provide make for a very easy conclusion as regards their perceived quality of service

Entanet do not deal with Joe Public direct, so you need to go via a reseller. It's a bit like Entanet are the wholesalers with the resellers acting as the retailer.

UKFSN & Vivaciti are 2 popular ones but there are others.

interesting, I've looked up UKFSN again. I just want to ask about bandwidth. I really don't know how much I use!!!

Assume i leave the internet computer on peak hours 10 hours a day and use it to do light tasks such as surf/browse/check emails for 6 hours and also spend 1 hour streaming videos. Would that exceed 3GB monthly on-peak usage? And if you exceed it with UKFSN will they automatically charge you for it or give you a warning first?

Their 30GB off-peak allowance is very generous but I'm a bit concerned if 3GB is enough for the tasks I aforementioned.

Any advice? is there a program that I can monitor my daily usage to just assess it?
