which company can offer me good service?

[link to this post]

this is the story

I have moved to my new house in march that is about 6 miles away from my exhange.

I signed up with sky and til now I have been having nothing but grieve, at last a Tier 3 staff said that I should not have been taken on as i am so far from the exchnage even they capped me on 512k I am still experiencing 21000 errors on the line over a 24 hr period.

They said that I can cancel the service becasue they cannot provide me a good one, but they also said that it iwll be same anywhere I go if I use a BT line as broadband, the only way is to find a cable provider,

Is that true?

Can I still get another BT line ISP that can provide me a better service?

If I have to go cable, who is out there?

I am desperate now

Thanks

They seem to be telling the truth. The phone line will be the same for all ISPs apart from a couple of cable operators.

I'd guess you're not in a cable area.

Try improving your line.

If you post your stats someone can give a better comment on the line (sync rate, attenuations, SNR margins)

edited to add:

Ask your neighbours if you are in a cabled area.

I think your issue here is one of support - Sky's support is appalling and you will get no help or tech expertise from them, so your priority must be a solid ISP with UK based, decent support.

Got to be, NewNet; Zen; IDNet amongst others.

Good luck - Blue

if that still uses the BT line, then will I get the same problem..?

I know Tech support of Sky is [censored], but if it is the problem with my line/BT, I guess I will be having the same issues no matter where I go, unless I go cable.

I will post stats later

thanks

it will also be a case wheather you isp will provide you with the support you need, when you need it!. we moved over from aol hell due to the fact they were just flogging me off to get me off the phone.
my advice try titanadsl 1 month contract and they are an enta reseller which means you will get a great level of support and problems fixed in hours rather than weeks.

hope this helps a little.

Check with IDNet about your exchange and liklihood of getting a relaible service. If they can help you they will and you will talk directly with someone who knows what they are talking about.

i don't think i am in a cable area (does that mean i cannot get cable service form anywhere at all)/

I will have a look at Titan

What do you guys say about BT itself? the reason I say that its I am sick of BT and SKy blaming each other for the problem, if i am with BT, at least I will hope that BT cannot blame anyone for the b/band service

Any advise is appreciated
