Leaving Freedom2Surf, which ISP now? Why Entanet?

[link to this post]

I've had a couple of good years with F2S but it's time to jump ship now it's part of Tiscali.

Please has anyone got ideas for a good stable connection for someone who never goes over 4GB per month?

Why do the Entanet sellers get such a following? Is there a problem with slowing up at 10pm when it goes off peak? F2S is off peak at 1am so never used it that much really.

Also I have a fairly low Max connection at just under 1mbps using Thinkbroadband tester and BTSpeedtester. All online checkers quote me as being able to receive far less than that due to my distance from the exchange.

If I migrate will I really lose some of my speed or will my current connection rate go with me. My profile on BTSpeedtester is 1000 but I'd hate this to be reset and go to 500.

Enta sellers get a good following because they're selling a great product at a great price backed up by the sort of personal service that only a small company can deliver. Speeds can, but not always, take a bit of a dip at 10pm. However, Enta are putting a new segment on an existing central live on Friday and have ordered a 6th central for delivery in August so they seem well on top of increasing capacity with demand as long as they have the subscriber base to support it. And anyway, if you can only get about 1Mb due to your line you aren't going to see the effect of the 10pm dip as I've never seen it go below 2.5Mbs.
If you never go above 4GB Newnet should be on your list as well.

Regards,
Steve

An LLU provider will give you the best download speeds - if you can use an LLU provider. So it would be wise to actually check what ADSL services you can get first - get before parting with any cash.

Use the link I have put below and it will tell you exactly what ADSL services you can get by just putting in your post code or phone number (i.e. it may say "Sky LLU" or "Be LLU" - that means you can use Sky or Be and they are an LLU service).

Link to ADSL services checker.

You may find you can use an LLU provider such as Sky or Be and then get more bang for your bucks.
