choosing between Entanet resellers

Hello everyone, sorry for posting as anonymous but I haven't much time.

I'm an AOL refugee who is very sick of throttling and, having reviewed the options, thinks he'll go with an Entanet provider (although if anyone e lse can suggest a non-throttling non-Enta ISP with a high cap, please go ahead). So far my research into the providers hasn't produced any especial distinguishing feautures (I looked at UKFSN (my current favourite as their customer service is excellent), Falconnet, Plusnet, ADSL24 etc.). The only difference between them that I can discern is that Falconnet retails it's 60/330 package at 27.99 instead of the usual 29.99. Therefore, as I seem to have exhausted non-empirical routes of research, I was hoping some of you could suggest based on experience as to which one is the best--and is there any reason not to go with Falconnet's cheaper offers?

The relevant factors in making the decision would be cost, speed, contention, usenet throttling/lack thereof and cost of activation. In advance, many thanks for the answers.

An LLU provider will give you the best download speeds and probably the biggest caps - or no caps whatsover with no throttling and at the lowest cost. It would be wise to actually check what ADSL services you can get first - before parting with any cash.

Use the link I have put below and it will tell you exactly what ADSL services you can get by just putting in your post code or phone number (i.e. it may say "Sky LLU" or "Be LLU" - that means you can use Sky or Be and they are an LLU service).

You may find you can use an LLU provider such as Sky or Be and then get more bang for your bucks.

I assume you are aware that Entanet do throttle?

Plusnet are not a enta reseller.

I personally would email a few basic questions to the resellers and see which one gives the best/fastest reply. If it is within buisness hours I recommend getting a stopwatch that displays milliseconds.

Thousands of Tiscali, Talk Talk, AOL, Orange and Pipex LLU customers would probably say otherwise.

So maybe you should consider changing your standard reply so that instead of saying "An LLU provider will give you the best download speeds and probably the biggest caps - or no caps whatsover with no throttling and at the lowest cost." you should mention the ones that might actually come close to what you are saying?
Not all LLU is good and not all Ipstream is bad.

Tony, You really are a very silly boy. How many times does it have to be explained to you (especially when you are not even a user) that Enta do not throttle people's connections in the same way that any other ISPs do.

Enta simply slow everyone down to prevent contention doing it randomly. This in turn prevents losses through contention and ensures that pings remain usable for gamers and VOIP etc.

They do not penalise any particular form of traffic, nor do they slow anyone down for financial reasons. The Anti-loss tool (ALT) does exactly what it says on the tin prevents losses.

No other ISP to my knowledge has put in place such a reactive and simply clever tool.
No other ISP to my knowledge is as open about their capacity and lets the end user see which pipe they are on (so that you can swap if there is a faster one).

I really am tired of people going on and on about how the ALT is throttling, when they aren't even affected by it as they aren't users.

While UKFSN may only be my third ISP, I have personally witnessed how the main players (Tiscali in my case) treat their users and keep them in the dark. If you want to be in a position to be able to criticise a particular service then may I suggest that you first try it. Most (no-ones perfect) people that try an Enta re-seller are impressed with the free flowing speed and great intelligent UK based customer service that they supply.

Here we go again. Another Entanet PR fanboy trying to shout down the plain and simple fact that Entanet do throttle their customers connections.

Also Entanet throttle indiscrimately by throttling everyone on any pipe that is struggling with capacity issues.

No matter how much twaddle you PR Entanet fanboys write - you must realise that people that read TBB are not idiots.

Users of TBB are getting tired of the double talk and aggressive bully boy tactics you Entanet PR fanboys use trying to cover up the reality that Entanet apply throttling.
