Just to add my 2p-worth - I am 66, my first computer was 23 years ago, an Acorn Electron (little brother to the BBC).

I would never advise a laptop for people my age and older, they are too fiddly. I had to use one at work occasionally and hated them. Arthritic fingers need space!
