To Be, or to O2?

[link to this post]

I'm planning on moving away from Pipex, and have already started making provisions to do so. I'm not entirely decided on where to go though.

From browsing many, many discussions on here it feels like O2 and Be seem to be amongst the most highly regarded. I think I'll probably go with one of them (though I've just seen something for the Post Office options that seem interesting, too).

I'm a bit bemused as to what the differences between the two are though, and how important they are.

I won't need a static IP, I'm sure. I'm assuming speeds are similar for both (and most checks I've found suggest I won't get more than 2-3Mbps anyway), as well as reliability.

Be's lack of email accounts bugs me a little, but I've already switched over everything I can think of to a Googlemail account anyway in preparation for moving.

Are there more subtle differences that I'm missing? Because at the moment it looks to me as if I'm better off saving myself 1.50 per month and going with O2, but I'd like to be sure.

Oh, and what does a "locked-down" router mean?

I recently saw a forum somewhere where the Post Office broadband seemed to be universally slow.

Bob - Newnet Lite, ex Prodigynet. Purple Cloud for domain reg and email and web space.
