Nildram Alternative

[link to this post]

Since Nildram has been so slow recently, and multiple times in recent months I thought I'd explore some other options. I'm perfectly happy with 2mb, I'm just worried I won't be able to find a similair usage policy.

Looking at my usage page I think (it's a little confusing) I'm on the old 50gb quota with remaining GBs carried over. Unlimited off-peak and uploads aren't counted. I really need the same sort of system if anything is available.

My Dad pays so he won't want to pay any more than the £26 p/month he is now. If you have any suggestions they would be very much appreciated.

Can you get Be/O2/Sky LLU?

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php

If not check to see if the Entanet resellers (e.g. ADSL24, UKFSN, etc.) peak/off-peak allowances might work for you.

I can't get Be or 02. I can get Sky 6.5MB-8MB speed apparently. So I guess I would have to use the "Mid" package. It has a 40GB cap but I can't seem to find if that includes off-peak or uploading. I assume it probably does though.

Will try some of the other providers you suggested, thanks.

Sky is only cost-effective if you also want/have Sky TV. Pity Be/O2 aren't available to you.

In reply to:

I can get Sky .... It has a 40GB cap

that would be sky connect at 17? doesn't have a very good reputation, unlike the LLU service.

I do have Sky TV, so that isn't a problem. I don't actually know what LLU means so I hope I'm looking at the right thing. Sorry for my ignorance.

Is that Sky LLU, or Sky Connect? Sky Connect is bad news. The LLU is quite good.

ADSL24 is highly recommended on the 19.99 package as long as you can put a fair bit of your downloads into the off-peak period.

A speed reduction system called the ALT applies in a sort of blanket fashion at busy times. No individual penalties or limits are imposed, apart from it costs a bomb if you exceed your package allowance. Because the other side of the coin is the high allowances for the money, customers are happy with it.

ADSL24 does look pretty good, and their off-peak hours are good too.

What did samknows say about your exchange - did it say Sky LLU was enabled? (LLU means the ISP has their own kit in the exchange).

If it isn't then steer clear. Even if it is, make sure you check with Sales, because occasionally all the Sky LLU capacity on an exchange is full and you get put onto Connect.

This is strange. Received this when I entered my number at ADSL24:

"The telephone number *********** currently has cease order in progress. You need to wait until 24-09-2005 before placing an order with us."

Edit: Yes, I can receive LLU. Here is a link to my results if it helps. http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange.php?ecode=EMTUTBU
