Best way to do this? Also a which ISP

[link to this post]

I have posted recently but basically I am wanting to ask a few different questions now.

Currently live at home with parents and on Nildram for last few years. I am now renting a flat by myself (still currently at home waiting for phone line to be set up).

Now I am paying 26 for Nildram on their old 50GB deal, I have a fairly high use so it suits me well. However, living by myself money will be tight so I am thinking Entanet's 20 package will be more suitable. Now the phone line is being installed next wednesday (26th) and am wanting to get the internet as soon after this as possible but begrudge paying a connection fee.

Is my only option to migrate with Nildram and then to Entanet for free or is there another way of doing it?

Thank you.

Freeola are an Entanet reseller with a connection fee of 9.99.

There have been two threads in the last month on these forums, (the second really just gets an answer pointing to the first), the theory being to go to Freeola for the cheap connection then migrate to one of the other Entanet resellers for whatever reason. I'm not going to read up the detail, I think perhaps Freeola ends up more expensive if you stay with them.

So do a search on the forums for Freeola for the last month to find the threads.

Edit:- Very unlikely you could move address with Nildram. Most ISPs charge for that and probably hit you with a new contract as well. Maybe you can though - have you asked?.

Currently 02 are doing a FREE connnection, 100 day money back guarantee and if you have an 02 PAYG mobile sim, or a contract, you can get 8mb unlimited broadband for just 7.50 per month.

If you don't have an 02 sim PAYG or contract, it is 12.50 per month. The offer ends on 31st March. If you think your phone line may be set up after this, you could give them a ring now to see if they will still let you have the free connection.

More details and terms and conditions on 02 here:

http://broadband.o2.co.uk/packages.jsp

If you sign up it may be worth getting an 02 PAYG sim at least as the requirement for cheaper broadband per month is just a 10 top up every THREE months - so 40 for the year, saving you 20 and giving you 40 of calls to boot.

You won't be able to migrate as such, a Mac code will not be needed as it will be a cease at the old address and provide at the new one scenario, so it will be treated as a new connection.

You is bad, this is the type of post that needs to be stomped down on..
You assume everybody can get O2 LLU product and make no reference to the fact that they might not be able to get any LLU product on there exchange at all..
Very misleading and a huge disappointment to the OP if they where to follow your advice, you really should start any post advising a OP on a LLU product to first check they can receive it...

Oh well smack my hand why don't you, sorry I never knew you were so perfect and never made any mistakes, there seems to be a few of those people without sin around lately ready to jump on other people for next to nothing when someone is trying to help

It only takes two minutes to check if a user can get it and it was only a suggestion.

There are a couple of others offering free connection out there, it is just finding them, I remember seeing one but cannot remember the name ( it was not a big fish but fairly well known)

PlusNet are doing free activation if you stay with them for 12 months, here is an example of one of their packages

OH and CHECK TO SEE IF YOU CAN GET THEM LOL

To be honest its not a big deal with O2 as they don't seem to do a IPstream product that i can find but SKY/Ukonline do a realy bad IPstream product that i would hate for a OP to sign up to by mastake..
And if im even more honest im jelous of anybody thats got O2 llu on there exchange as they cancelled our exchange..
And you got to admit it would be a big mastake if somebody sighned up to sky ipstream product expecting LLU performance..
And i have lived the disappointment of being advised a product that is not available on my exchange...
Thinking about it a bit more its probably why O2 have got such a good reputation amongst its user as if you got O2 you got there LLU and not the badly mantained ipstream product other isp give there unfortunate users..
Any way you got it bang on the money and i doubt there is a better option for the lucky Lucky OP

I admire your honesty, it is a quality I like to discover in people and one I always admire

Sky do mainly LLU, there is one IP stream product called Sky "connect" they do if your exchange is not LLU enabled - all the other three of their offerings are LLU.

It would help if the OP could post what is available at his/her new exchange for people to advise better

Thanks for the help. Should point out I don't have Sky TV and have no intention of getting it.

You can get UKOnline. That is Sky without the need for the TV, but dearer because of that. This news item also refers. Don't know if that has progressed any.

I stick by my original suggestion - freeola (Entanet). Comparisons here and here.
