They mean you are on a 2Mb fixed speed service, you almost certainly have a long line, and as things stand you couldn't have any more speed on ADSL Max or LLU.
If you can plug your modem/router into the test socket inside the master socket and get the stats then, we can give a better view of your line and your phone wiring which can make a significant difference.
Opening the master socket, (
carefully as any extensions are probably wired to it), is perfectly ok - the Phone Book even tells you to plug a phone into the test socket if you have a fault.
For example, today someone on ADSL Max, the up to 8Mb service, came on for advice about something else, and posted his stats showing a downstream speed of under 2000kbps.
I was able to point him to a web site with some instructions for improvement requiring a few minutes work on his part. He now has a downstream sync of 4960.
Rare - in fact I only remember one other that dramatic, but very satisfying. A considerable but smaller improvement is quite common. But it depends on what the test socket stats look like. You may be getting all you can.
