Should I change from Zen to Sky

[link to this post]

Hi, I am currently with Zen and an really pleased with their service, the only thing wrong is the 24.99 rental. Money is tight at the moment and I have been thinking about changing to Sky mid. Am I mad for even thinking about this?

I've just done a speed test now which is slower than normal.

Speed Test Results
Date 03/04/08 10:52:10
Speed Down 3544.96 Kbps ( 3.5 Mbps )
Speed Up 379.89 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )
Port 8095
Server speedtest1.adslguide.org.uk

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sky looks OK when it works, however if you have problems that's when you'll really see what the difference is. Whether that is worth 20 to you, only you can decide.

Steve

Have you made sure you can/will get Sky LLU? Ask Sam. Presumably you have Sky TV already?

Even if it shows that you can, make sure if you order Sky you can have the LLU immediately. If their eqipment is fully utilised at your exchange they may try to talk you into Sky Connect - which seems dire - until they upgrade the exchange - 2026?

Another possibility would be Newnet Home S with the same allowance as your Zen package, similar standards and a few pounds cheaper. Does Sam show Newnet LLU? That's 25GB and cheaper still. Or 15GB for 16.95.

Bob: BT Broadband >> Prodigynet >> Newnet Lite.
Purple Cloud for domain reg/hosting, email hosting and now also web space.

Best move I ever made moving to Sky LLU. Got faster speeds and saved pounds.

The connection is also very reliable.

I also took their free phone calls deal plus Sky now bill my phone line rental cheaper than BT charge (even though it is still a BT line of course).

Sky has genuine 24 hour Customer Service as well - so you can get problems sorted any time of the day or night because you get a real live person 24/7.

Calls are also going to be free to Sky customer service departments from 1st. July if you take their free phone calls deal. None of this 50 pence a minute that some ISPs charge just for ringing their customer service.

Odds are he will get as good - if not better - customer service than he has now because Sky customer service is staffed 24 hours a day.

Also any calls to Sky customer services are going to be free from 1st. July - if you take their free phone calls deal.

Few times I have had cause to contact Sky customer service they did what I expected them to do - in other words they fixed the problems.

Tony, everybody knows you're happy with Sky, but surely you're not suggesting that Zen customer service is inferior to Sky's?

As I said in my previous post - when I have had cause to contact Sky's customer services (including one time at 2am in the morning), they fixed the problems.

So from experience I can say that for me Sky customer services have been excellent - plus the calls to Sky customer services will be free from 1st. July if you have the Sky free phone calls deal.

I can't compare Sky with Zen as I haven't used Zen but how much better can a customer service department be than actually fixing the problems? - which is what my experience has been with Sky.

Also Sky customer service is genuine 24 hour a day help with assistance from live people - no matter what time of the day or night you ring.

Have you ever had any problems with Sky customer services then?

Hi, thanks for the replies. I can get the LLU service. If I pay an extra 5 month on top of my tv subscription I can get up to 8Megs.

I have found Zen to be really good and their customer service has always been brilliant, even when I've used the online tech support.

I'm just concerned that if I change and the wife gets a slower service she will be after me just done a sppedtest now and it's 21.56 and the speed I'm getting is 6.1.

I've heard good and bad about Sky the main concern is tying up to them for 12months if their speeds are slow.
