O2 worse than Tiscali

I'm astonished by all the positive comments about O2. In my experience they are unusable - blocking 24 hours a day and hogging the computer (unable to browse in the foreground when downloading in the background). At least with Tiscali you are free to schedule your heavy use to off-peak periods. O2 block you 24 hours a day. "O2 don't throttle" - utter tosh (unless you define 'completely block' as different from 'throttle'!)

Well on the comparison page on this site there are over a thousand people last month not on average agreeing with you.

Is it possible you have a problem with your line or setup? Would you like to post your line stats and speedtest results for independent comment?

Also if you are going to say things like that please take the time to register yourself because Anon generally don't get taken seriously. If you have a genuine problem there are lots on this board who are more than willing to share/help!

It's not the line (I can use proxies) it is O2's fair use policy. Now they are, of course, entitled to enforce their rules and block whatever sites they choose but they are so much more draconian than other providers that I am surprised by the lack of comment from other users.

I'd be interested more about how they hog the computer? What software are they using to do this?

Services that use a router require no software installed on your computer to access that service.

Also what is being blocked 24 hours a day? Your post makes it sound like the whole internet.

So which sites do they block?

Maybe because you're the only one suffering from this.

Is there any reason for O2 to apply a FUP to your usage? If not then my feeling is that problem lies with your connection somewhere as O2/be* have never throttled anyone's usage to my knowledge.

Sorry, I've conflated two issues here. The first is a legitimate complaint about hogging resources the second is an illegitimate whine but I'm surprised no-one else is mentioning it.

Firstly if I have a single thread downloading in the background it immediately saturates the feed at a maximum rate. I can not use a web browser.

Secondly, I may be a thieving scumbag (but at least I know I am a thieving scumbag and don't pretend otherwise or try to justify it like certain other freetards. I am a thief and accept the risks) but I am not the only thieving scumbag out there and am surprised that no-one else complains about the blocking of sites like rapidshare.com.

no you're not, but i suspect that you may be " the only thieving scumbag out there" without the sense to limit their uploads, as saturating the upload completely stuffs normal net use.
Perhaps you could log a fault with O2?!

Give us some facts apart from rapidshare - which has had many threads complaining about it on these forums.
