Moving from Be Unlimited to ???

[link to this post]

Hi Group,

I am moving house and Be Unlimited are unable to provide the service to my new address therefore I need to select a new ISP.

I'm looking for a P2P friendly ISP, running at 8Meg. I'll need unlimited and would like to avoid throttling, if at all possible.

I'm gutted that I have to leave Be and the 40 quid cancellation doesn't help!

Does anyone have any suggestions please? Ideally, less than 25 quid per month.

Thanks all.

Have a look at the Entanet resellers (e.g. ADSL24, UKFSN, etc.). They have generous off-peak allowances if you can schedule your downloads. It might be best to check to see if the new exchange is 21CN WBC enabled. If it is it might be best to avoid Entanet for the time being as there seem to be teething problems with BT's new system.

Have you checked O2 cannot supply LLU at the new address either? The reason I ask is that on some exchanges that O2/Be have LLU'ed they seem to allocate the connections between them, so one can be unable to supply due to having used their allocation, but the other can. Of course if the exchange isn't O2/Be LLU'ed anyway the question doesn't arise.

A good alternative is O2 Access, fits all your requirements so far as I can see. Of course, actual speed will depend on the line length and quality.

Hi John,

Thanks for the reply. Both UKSFN and ADSL24 seem to be pretty pricey for my needs!
I could throttle the connection from P2P during peak hours - and suspect I will have to.

Hi RobertoS,

Asking Be, they said that the exchange I'm moving to is not listed as connected, so I guess not.

I've looked at O2, their AUP (or FUP) appears /vague/ at best. There is no definition of fair usage. The same could be said of Be but when I phoned them, they said they had users running at 300GB/mo and they were not seen as excessive! I very much doubt I'll run anything close to that!

I'll ring them later and see if I can elicit any further information.

Thanks for the advice.

Ask samknows about your exchange. Though it looks as though it will be a waste of time in this case.

So far as I know there have been no reports of O2 invoking the FUP on LLU or Access. There is also a 30-day money back getout at the moment.

RobertoS,

Thanks for the link to samknows - very useful. It is showing that LLU is enabled for Tiscali TV but no availability for Be or O2. In fact the list of available ISPs is limited to Talk Talk, Tiscali and Tiscali TV (whatever that is)

After looking at the FUP for Tiscali, it's looking like the 8Meg option is the safest bet for me and I'll just kill or throttle P2P during 'peak' hours.

I'm not sure if you are being serious but I doubt you'll find Tiscali at all suitable.

According to the specs, It sounds acceptable. I'm guessing that there are other issues with Tiscali that they're not publicising on their site. Would you care to fill me in on the gory details?

I've never used them but I get the impression they are only suitable for light users (sub 3GB per month). Have a look through the Tiscali forum and perhaps ask for comments there.
