General LLU question

[link to this post]

Okay, this is a daft question to ask, but I can't seem to find the information on TBB or on any of the LLU ISP sites;

If I take an LLU connection, do I still pay for my BT line rental? I'd like to cut down on my monthly outgoings (got a shock when I looked at my bank balance recently) and the internet may be the firs thing to go.

Specifically, I need a fixed IP (run my own web/mail server), fairly large limits and it needs to be under 30 per month.

Any takers?

TIA

Andy

Generally Yes, I believe.

Be/O2 might still have a package within your budget even taking into account BT line rental.

Who has unbundled your exchange? http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php

Yes you do.

I'm with O2 LLU and I still have to pay line rental to BT although I think that I could pay it to someone else like Talk Talk if I were to use them for the telephony side of things i.e. still use O2 for my broadband.

Two types of LLU

1) Full where both the phone and broadband are unbundled e.g. TalkTalk, so nothing to pay to BT
2) Shared - where only broadband is unbundled

With (2) you of course still have the option of the various WLR deals, so you don't pay BT for the line rental but someone else who may be cheaper.

Do O2 only ever unbundle broadband?

Can I find out if and when they are likely to cover Norwich or is that sensitive info they don't disclose? I think they claim they will have 70% broadband coverage by the end of 2008

As far as I am aware yes they only unbundle the broadband side

As for when Norwich, no idea, but remember Norwich will have more than one exchange, and it is likely to be the largest one that is done.

You get something like 50% by just covering London, Birmingham, Manchester and a couple of other large cities. Norwich suffers from being the end of the line both for trains and the Internet backhaul
