I need some help in trying to find a package to go for, i download a lot of stuff, 40 - 50 gig probably. i want a good reliable connection as i do a lot of gaming, i am not migrating from anyone but would like free connection as i am really broke till i get paid ( or to be billed for a connection wud b fine i.e no debit cards needed at point of order) . I dont want to pay the earth, im my old house i have the virgin cable service and feel robbed about paying £35 for a 8mb line when i paid the same for a 20mb, if thats what needs to be done tho ill do it.

any help please?

i need to have the equipment aswell, and again paying for it now would be a problem so free or being billed for it is my only option

UK Online (i.e. Sky/Easynet LLU) is probably your best bet from that lot, 8Mb for £20 or 16Mb for £25. Unfortunately they insist on a ridiculous mandatory router (Netgear DG834GT) purchase of £50 and they don't appear willing to budge on that. Having said that, I signed up earlier this week and no card was needed at the point of order so you'll get billed for it later. UK Online won't bat an eyelid at that sort of usage.

Then you'll have to go with one of the rubbish ones.
Sky will be the best - It's unbundled, so doesn't have to suffer BT's fiddling.
It has a huge FUP.
It uses ADSL2+ (if your line is long enough).

Only problem?
You're in a flat, which means you can't order SkyTV the easy way, which means you'll probably have to get it through a communial dish, and order the box & subscription through the appropriate channels (and add Sky BB at a later date).

If you absolutely must order something today, look at UKonline.
They're part of the same network as Sky, so use the same unbundled, non-BT fiddled with ADSL2+ product.

If you can be a bit more patient, and get Sky TV ordered first, you'll get your broadband a lot cheaper, and get the equipment thrown in for free.
But if you must have it now, you have a choice of cheap but rubbish, or UKonline.

just phoned ukonline, there service does look good for me, but they confirmed that i do have to pay the £50 up front, how did u manage to get round that?

I ordered online, all it asked for was my bank account details to get a direct debit set up. Absolutely no card required at the time of order
