any recommandations?

[link to this post]

Hi guys

My old man's Broadband is poor and i cannot believe he is on a 512k fixed speed with AOL, ok, only £ 10 a month but certainly there is something better out there.

Where he is he is capable of getting about 2.5mb line speed so anything upto 8mb will be more than fine for him.

I am looking at something about the same kind of money but they are all like 12 or 18 months contract.

O2
Beunlimited
Plus net (£ 6 a months on 18 months)

Now my question is, I am more tend on the O2 package, he is not a phone customer so he will be paying about 13 quid.

My dad mainly uses it for browsing and some streaming for TV news and programmes etc...

Do any of them block ports for p2p or emule?

Thanks

Joe

If O2 offer him O2 Standard when you put the phone number into the web site then that will be fine. No port blocking, throttling or capping. If they offer O2 Access then steer clear! At the moment it is severely over-subscribed so many people are getting very poor speeds when things are busy.

Though without an O2 mobile perhaps Be Value would be best if he can get that. But Be charge extra for email.

Newnet may be OK for him but starting to get pricier as he may exceed the 3GB on Lite. Home M would be fine but expensive.

Scroll down this page for Plusnet throttling details.

Bob: Demon dialup >> Freeserve dialup >> BT Broadband >> Prodigynet >> Newnet >> O2 Standard.
