next after newnet?

Newbie post here I'm afraid, but I would really appreciate some advice...

I'm currently with newnet, on home s 20gb, and they've been great for the last year and a half. However, due to new co tenants with a greater need for downloading, I've suddenly found that 20gb a month is not enough.

So, do I pay for 10gb extra pre paid bandwidth and take my monthly bill with newnet up to something like £35.00 (sadly the off peak allowance is a little too off peak for us to use, unless anyone knows of a way of using iplayer on a timer).

Or do I find a new provider?

My exchange, Glandyfi, is not unbundled, so the choices are slightly limited. I also live at the very end of a 2.5 km line that wends its way on the ground through fields and ditches... Despite this, I usually get between 3.5 and 4.5 kbps. How much of this speed (and reliability) is due to newnet I don't know, as they are the only provider this house has ever had.

So far, I've been looking at idnet and o2 access as alternatives, although the o2 access option is possibly not going to be reliable enough from what I've read. Idnet however seem to offer 30gb a month and a more useful off peak allowance - are they a good option?

Any thoughts gratefully received...

IDNet are good, others are Zen and AAISP, though the AAISP weekday allowances are tiny. Also worth a look is Surfwise 75 from vivaciti (Enta resellers who recently added this non-Enta package due to the problems with Enta - so avoid the vivaciti Family packages which on the face of it would be ideal. They are not safe at the moment).

As you say, O2 Access could be dodgy, which is a shame. A useful comparison chart. I think I am right in saying the suggested ones (except vivaciti) do not count uploads either, unlike Newnet who do.

Our standard BT based service has a 60G/Month fair usage allowance at £19.56/month including VAT. We do not charge an inbound migration fee.

Can you explain the difference between your Max 50 and Max 150 products? They look exactly the same on your website.

Your right, the Max 150 product needs to be updated. It was a 150G/month allowance product that was priced differently. The Max50 product was originally 50G/month, this has been increased to 60G/month.

(In fact the whole website needs a make over, but thats another story.)

I will get someone tasked with updating the products asap to remove any confusion. Thanks for the feedback.

I take it you don't do the 150gb package anymore?

We will be bringing back the 150G/month service and introducing a 300G/month product. They will however be higher priced and LLU based.

Can you say which LLU supplier you will be using ?

Tiscali Wholesale, but not using Tiscali network for IP transit.

IDNET have recently introduced improved packages plus ADSL2 services in serviced areas. They are dependable, friendly and helpful with a free personal service.

I thought I heard from one of your colleagues (perhaps even you) that you were only going to be using Carphone Warehouse wholesale from henceforth as you were dissatisfied with the level of support Tiscali were providing?

Althought I realise there may not be a great deal of difference from henceforth with Tiscali UK now being owned by Carphone Warehouse.

How are 4TheNet's plans for LLU progressing? I am an existing 4TheNet customer, but would consider upgrading to ADSL2+ with you, as my exchange has both Tiscali and Carphone Warehouse LLU.

When I refered to Tiscali Wholesale, this was in reference to the two high usage services we are intending to introduce.

With regards to LLU now and going forwards we can currently supply LLU ADSL2+ on C&W/Bulldog enabled exchanges and are working with Opal towards getting Opal LLU products added to our portfolio.
