Thinking about changing ISP - advice required

Hi. I'm currently with Primus and until 2 weeks ago I was getting speeds of 3.5 meg with them, now I'm averaging between 0.1 and 1 meg with constant resyncs - BT have checked the line on numerous occassions (this has been happening on and off for years, last time this happened was Christmas) and state the problem is not with them its with Primus (the Openreach engineer stated its the best electronically clear line he's seen considering I'm 4 kilometers from the exchange and the electrical characterics support 7.92meg!) so to cut a really long story short I'm looking for a new ISP.

However, I'm paying £24 a month for both line rental and my "up to 8 meg" line, which is unlimited downloads - I average between 20-40 gig a month. I've checked with Sam Knows which gives me the following

ADSL available at ~3.5Mbps

which bears out the speed I'm getting when the sync's okay.

The only LLU operators available at the Scarborough exchange are

AOL (no way am I using them!)
C&W/Bulldog
Orange
TalkTalk

Any suggestions for either a comparible combined line rental / ISP or seperate line rental / ISP greatly appreciated.

Using the think broadband package search it looks like I'll have to pay a lot more - but all suggestions welcome.

I can only speak as I find..........I would go with TalkTalk.

I was previously with Sky Connect (a BT badged product) and moved to TT as it was the only LLU service on my exchange.

I haven't looked back - using my old Sky router (NetGear DG834GT) flashed with DG Team firmware I'm getting twice the speed I was getting with Sky at a fraction of the cost.

You're right. I don't P2P so it's not an issue for me.

But I have read that TT do throttle P2P a lot - that's how they keep the speeds up and the price down.

I guess it's "horses for courses"

I would suggets that you check out IDNET Not the cheapest but certainly one of the best for help and support (if needed). A very friendly, helpful and personal company which go out of their way for you, the customer.
