Help Which BT Based ISP to Choose?

[link to this post]

Hi All,

I need help on choosing a new ISP, just cancelled with Talk Talk in there 30 day trial as they do not do P2P over 1kbps!!!

I need an ISP through BT as the only LLU on my exchange is Talk Talk and Tiscali (Which are both a joke!) that will allow me to access and download what I want

I'm after an ISP that is unlimited (or FUP/Capped at around 100gb) that will allow me to use all P2P like torrents, DC Hubs, 4ondemand, BBC I player in peak times.

I am also after something that can handle VPN connections so I can work from home, plus allowing my Kids to play online games via Xbox etc.

I've tried trawling the forums etc but I'm getting a bit lost. I just wish I could get UKonline LLU on my exchange I was happy with them before I moved!

Any help is greatly accepted

Thanks

How much of the 100GB can be pushed to off peak (say after midnight), how much of it must be within working hours (say 8am to 6pm) and how much can be weekday evenings (6pm to midnight) and weekends?

When I work from home using VPN I average about 2gb per time so a couple of days per week over the month could be 16gb plus the streaming/gaming in the evenings could be another 40gb per month so I would be looking at maybe 50%-60% between 8am-midnight and the rest overnight!

When on ukonline llu prev I used to on average use 150gb per month but that was 24/7!

That's pretty limiting and could cost you a fair whack.

If 75-80GB (50-60% of 150GB) each month must be between 8am & midnight and you must have at least 16GB during the working day you're looking at one of the Entanet resellers (although evening & weekend speeds can be a little on the rubbish side) or suffer the O2 Access product (which is known to have speed "issues").
Basically; BT charge so much for wholesale bandwidth none of the ISPs using BT wholesale ADSL products can give anything like the usage you need (unless you're willing to suffer poor speeds or pay through the nose for your ADSL).

IDnet are a good ISP but they charge £34.25 a month for a 60GB product (30GB between 9am & midnight).
Newnet do a 120GB/unlimited business product (called "Business U") for £57.50 a month which allows a total monthly allowance of 120GB between 7am and 2am the next morning and unlimited off-peak (2am to 7am); or £43.70 a month if you can keep the peak usage (07:00 to 02:00) below 50GB a month.
