ISP urgent recommendations

[link to this post]

Right, need to get my order in to a new ISP (transfer with MAC) by tomorrow morning.

I have a BT line and want to stay with that for the moment, the best I can get is ADSL Max.

Probably use about 5GB peak and another 10GB off peak.

Use my own equipment and I'd like to have a one month contract which I've always had before but these seemed to have thinned out a bit now.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Tis done, with Newnet. I can't remember how like a migration takes, last time I changed, I actually had the line ceased and the time before that was with the magic PlusNet, prior to their BT days when they went in to nuclear melt down on this site. Anyone say how long it takes.

Can't remember how long it takes - which ISP were you with before? If it was a BT Wholesale one then it should only be 4 or 5 days I expect.

Watch out for the uploads as Newnet count them. But topups carry over to the following month, though I think maybe only whole GBs.

Remember there is the unmetered period 2-7am, but beware the timing smile. Usage readings are taken hourly from your session start time so unless you play around with them and/or know what you are doing then you are only 100% safe between 3 and 6. The FAQ isn't really correct as there is bound to be an overlap into allowance time either at the start or end.

Just in case you didn't check anywhere - a comparison.

I was with Entanet before via ADSL24. I didn't have a problem with either except until one of the Entanet staff (John Hutchinson) became totally unreasonable. I had a decent connection, got about 6.5Meg download, which was over encrypted wireless through the upstairs socket as opposed to the main socket downstairs, so I reckon had I directly connected to the main socket I'd have been getting most of my 8Megs.

A shame really, because the conenction was fine, no downtime and the price was good.

Thanks for the heads up on the other bits, has the weekend stopped being off peak now for most ISPs or is it just Newnet that don't count the weekend (daytime) as off peak?

Never thought about it like that as Newnet basically don't (didn't) have peak and off-peak, just an allowance and a speed that actually used to go up after 6pm for me!

They recently introduced the unmetered spell as I think the lack of it was beginning to make people leave.
