Moving - but losing my current ADSL hurts :o(

[link to this post]

Back when Metronet was just Metronet, I got myself onto a package called PayGoS 2000. With a later upgrade to MaxDSL, I've never looked back and have been totally happy with the service.

I get good speeds. The package is of the IPStream 1:20 contention with the 768Kbps upstream.
I have a block of 8 static IP addresses, which simplified the process of setting up IP phones.
I can download up to 150GB a month (which I've never even managed 1/3rd of) inclusive.
I pay just a tad over £27 per month for this.

I'm moving to another non-LLU area. No cable either. This Metronet package no longer exists and I'm struggling to find something similar. I've heard IDNET recommended quite a bit, but to get something similar (all be it with less download allowance) I'm looking at almost £10 a month more.

I was made redundant in Feb. Start a new job on Monday, but had to take a £8k drop in annual salary, so things are going to be tight money-wise.

Having been happy with the service I was on, I've lost touch with what's what in the ISP market. Can anyone recommend a good, reliable service that'll give me more or less what I had for the same price (or, dare I say it, less!?)

Any help anyone can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
Simon J.Lowe.

Office 45 through an Entanet reseller like ADSL24 is probably about the closest you'll get to your old Metronet deal; this includes 8 IP addresses as standard and 832kbps uploads. It is only a 1 month contract so no risk of getting stuck with something that doesn't suit.

Tried contacting metronet and asking if they can move your package over to your new house, I know my ISP sky can do this!

Other than that have you considered metronets sister company plus net?

In all honest if I didn't have any LLU I would go with an unlimited package still even if it meant peaktime slowdowns.

Do you use alot of p2p mate? If so then your best going with an provider such as adsl24... But if it's mainly just web browsing then BT broadband would be fine, as they don't slowdown general web browsing just p2p. Infact general web browsings faster than alot of isps as p2p is throttled leaving alot more spare for web browsing and email etc.

If you do opt for bt give em a call though, can regulary get the top package for £20 instead of £25 on the phone!

As I said do not get bt if you use p2p alot though!!

Also if you get plus net pro there is no download restrictions on p2p

Plusnet are very upront about how they limit their different packages. Just take a look!

Hope this helps!

Plusnet is part of BT, so i'm assuming metronet is also (with plusnet being its sister company).

Also o2 access is the only truly unlimited ipstream product atm.

They run a policy of anything goes. However this does lead to some capactiy issues and sometimes you will get slow speeds. But least it's not that expensive!!! & You would be making a saving!

Thank you all for your advice. I'm going to take a closer look at ADSL24. Looks quite promising!

My Metronet connection is staying here at this house. It's only me that's moving, due to my new job. Otherwise, I would have tried getting my existing service moved.

I'll pop over to Plusnet as well, but I think I've checked fairly recently, and nothing really 100% suits.

Hi there,

If you drop me a PM with your Metronet username I may be able to sort this out for you.
