Which ISP Aberdeen

I have just bought and moved into a flat, and our nearest exchange has Orange, TalkTalk, Sky and AOL LLU enabled.

They promise an enablement date of o2/be of the 30/06/2009, but I don't really hold out any hope of that! The o2/be track record in the exchange is that since the 31/10/2008 they have promised the enablement every few months - and when they reach those few months they push it back another few months.

Is it worth hanging on for be internet, or should I just bite the bullet and get one of the other providers?

It very much depends what you will be using the internet for, and how long you will be where you are. (Students for example need short contracts).

Browsing, emails, internet shopping and banking, that sort of thing needs one sort of ISP. Heavy downloading or streaming of music, films and such another.

Also relevant is the number and age groups of the people on the connection and the maximum you are willing to pay. Will you be getting Sky TV anyway?

As you say, O2/Be appears to be holding back at the moment.

We aren't students and there are only two of us on the connection, we have both recently graduated so we are going to be here for a few years. I am a gamer, and would probably be partial to downloading demo's from the web and xbox marketplace, hence why a up to 24 Meg connection with unlimited bandwidth would be appealing.

Probably not wanting to get sky, as we are trying to stay active and if we get sky we will just slob out infront of the tv, which is something we are trying to avoid.

I'd get a monthly contract with entanet or someone similar until O2 was enabled, personally.

I suggest UKOnline, package depending on budget and distance from the exchange. That is in effect Sky without the TV requirement.

I also suggest you do not use their (or any ISP) email system as it is a pain changing all contacts if you migrate, and many ISP systems seem flaky as well.

Purple Cloud that I use and 1 & 1 are both popular. Get your own domain(s) and never have to change again. Googlemail is free but not my cup of tea.
