Do I have any other choices for unlimited usuage?

[link to this post]

Hello,

I'm currently with Vivaciti and it's been one problem after another. (LLU package unlimited)

My exchange is WSARD if that helps.

Anyway, for some reason Vivaciti no longer answer my emails. It was great at first and they'd email back quickly, but at the end of the day they couldn't fix my problem. Random bursts of noise on the line, disconnecting when the phone rings. I just can't take it anymore. I play MMORPGs and get disconnected at the worst of times and it takes forever to reconnect. I seem to sync fast enough, but for some reason I have problems connecting.
Stats below if that helps.

Upstream 987 (Kbps.)

Downstream 8248 (Kbps.)

Noise Margin:

Upstream:5dB
Downstream:9dB

Attenuation

Upstream:50dB
Downstream:45dB

Any help at all will be appreciated!

If you have line problems they will migrate with you to the next ISP so don't expect any magic fixes. Are you confident your internal wiring is OK? See http://www.dslzoneuk.net/socket.php?type=html

Sky LLU is meant to be OK but you need to be a Sky TV subscriber. Another possibility is UKOnline who (I think) use the same LLU kit as Sky.

John, thanks for your post.

I have checked my internal wiring on the extension socket. ( I only use the extension socket)
I believe I checked the master socket too and I believe it was fine, perhaps I should check it again. Unable to test via the test socket because my master socket is in the kitchen.

Also, glad I'm not the only person having problems..

The ring wire at the master socket is far more important than at the extension. Also if you use a plug-in extension on the master then that extension will probably have a ring wire in it.

I just checked it there. Bent a good butter knife opening the thing! 2 and 5 are the only ones connected. Opened the socket and there was a bunch of fluff inside!

Also if you use a plug-in extension on the master will have a ring wire in it.

Sorry, not sure what you mean by this. I'm a bit of an idiot when it comes to networking!

Migrate to Xilonet, also on C&W.

Sorry, there's a typo that doesn't help, I shall fix it after this post.

If you use a plug-in phone extension cable plugged into the master socket then the extension cable normally contains a ring wire. This puts noise onto the line even if pin 3 is not connected. It doesn't need your ADSL to be connected through it either for it to mess things up.

Can't help re unlimited usage I'm afraid. The only non-LLUs at anything under £80pm are O2 Access and Plusnet Unlimited. The speeds on Access can be dire and on Plusnet are guaranteed to be. Plusnet seem to have just scrapped their 18 month contract on their Unlimited (effective 22 October), but it has severe throttling - see this page.

No idea what else it could be? Tried multiple filters. Router says it supports ADSL2+.
Is there anything else I should look into before moving ISP?

Hi,
We have no un-read tickets on our systems at all, and and have done a lookup on the customers on the LLU at the exchange you list, and none of the customers have got any open or closed tickets with relation to an issue. The reason for the surprise is that we have a fix for the inbound phone ringing causing sync drops problem.
Can you send a PM with your username or just post your 3 digit client code (meaningless to anyone other than the customer and us)
