I've had enough with Tiscali, but am unsure who to go to

[link to this post]

Hey all,

I've been with Tiscali ever since their acquisition of TinyOnline (2001?), and in recent months the service has degraded to the point that carrier pigeon is probably faster.

Unfortunately, my exchange (STRINGW, Postcode BH24) doesn't have o2 llu, and as I'm on a fully-unbundled Tiscali contract, I can't easily migrate to any other provider.

Basically, here's my requirements:
A: Decent price (probably £30 as a ceiling)
B: Includes line rental + anytime calls
C: Has a decent throughput
D: Has a customer support center that isn't in china
E: Has some kind of knowledge of games / allows servers

My line stats (ADSL)
Data Rate (Kbps, down/up) 6560, 448
Noise margin (dB) 11.9, 24.0
Output power (dBm) 12.5, 19.8
Attenuation (dB) 39.0, 20.5
Ring Wire: Removed

Any input is much appreciated.

Thanks!

How much data do you envisage shifting and when?

As soon as possible really (unsure what you mean by data shifting)

Check out IDNET
Very reputable company, well respected and everything is based in Letchworth England, you actually talk to people who can understand you and you can understand them.

How much do you down/upload per month and at what times of the day?

I shift about 50gb+ a month down, and about 2gb+ up 24/7.

(IDNet is way too expensive)

Virtually all ISP's that use the BTw products (Non LLU in other words) would i suspect, class you as a heavy user and costs will rise accordingly. You'll find that all low cost (Particularly those that offer bundled deals) products are shaped, blocked or throttled in some way. Unless you're prepared to pay more, your options are limited. One of the Entanet resellers may be OK for you as their troubles seem to have eased somewhat but someone will be along soon who can advise you further.

Light at the end of the tunnel?

I had a terrible time with tiscali going back to 2002/2003 so know how you feel!

According to this page you exchange should have C&W already live on it?!

http://adsl24.co.uk/networkstatus/wbc/list/

If it has, heads up for Xilo, £17.61 a month, there are a few other resellers of C&W LLU but they are the cheapest and support is great. No port blocking/throttling and unlimited along with static ip. You should from your stats get anywhere up to about 8-9mb ish.

They are also running a promotion at the moment, migration is free with the code on this page.

Great ISP so am more than happy to recommend to others.

Speak to them see what you think, it's the pro16h package you'd want.

Other reviews here to back up how I have found them.

I thought I'd have a look for him as I saw it earlier today, given his woes with Tiscali.

Hopefully he can change that frown to a smile if he migrates wink
