If it's already flashed to the latest firmware though you cannot go back, but it expains what firmwares you can change to the standard singtel firmware, it was a while ago I done this to mine so can't remember off hand, I prefer the DG834GT as an all round router with more tweaking options.

We can certainly transfer lines from full LLU providers like TalkTalk, it takes around 3 weeks and we do broadband and telephone simultaneously.

If their usage is low enough ie <3gb it might be better for them to look into mobile broadband rather than fixed line as a line with that attenuation is going to cause nothing but trouble.

It's the Tiscali supplied Siemens routers

Have tried DG834GT ( used mine to test) and a DGN2000 (had to go back as couldn't get sync) and neither showed any improvement and ds attenuation was still between 71db and 73db from test socket

Never had any problems with my 780WL with v6.1.4.3 firmware, but I do know the CLI fairly well

After over 2 weeks offline with TalkTalk due to a line fault, Dad has placed the order today and has been advised it should take about 3 weeks

Only 512Mb but likely more reliable and stable to what they have now

Would that mean I could keep the same phone number and is there any setup fee?

You keep your same phone number in the vast majority of cases (I've never seen the number change, but this isn't guaranteed) and we defer the setup fee for you - it's £25 but is written off, so long as you stay with us for 12 months.
