Which ISP Heavy P2P user??

Hi everyone, as you can see I'm a noob on here so please forgive me for some daft or already answered questions.
Ok I'll try to explain my question/problem in as much detail but without boring you all to death

Right I am a very heavy user according to my current ISP, they told me I am averaging 150GB per month combined upload & download. Most of this is P2P sharing and a lot of online gaming. I'm with TalkTalk on their Pro package or maybe called Plus now.
It's an upto 24MB/s DLspeed package with upto 1MB/s UPspeed, but regular speed tests say I'm getting around 15MB/s down and 750KB/s up on average which is great.
BUT....... heres the thing! During the day when downloading anything on P2P no matter what it is I can barely reach more than 10KB/s download, but I can upload at 200KB/s 24hours a day. The only time the speed goes up is between 03:30am and 07:30am, then depending on the health of the torrent or what ever I am downloading I can reach any where between 10KB/s and 1MB/s. Now I'm not daft I'm not expecting 15MB/s but just 100/200KB/s like everyone else seems to be getting.
Oh and although I am a bit of a noob I'm not completely daft to it all I have tirelessly setup my Torrent downloader and router for the perfect settings like port-forwarding and things, but it makes almost no difference.

I have also noticed that when playing online games on the PS3 I am always lagging/jerking around and can't host a game as everyone will be lagging really bad, but I'm on a wired 15MB/s connection and again I have setup all my router and firewall for the perfect settings. Where as my friend who lives 5mins away from me on a 2MB/s wireless connection can host games and just always seems to be ahead of me and can download the exact same things as me at the exact same time 100 times faster than me!

Now I have been trying to read up on this as much as possible and correct me if I'm wrong but thats throttling or shaping right?? And I read that online gaming is basically P2P as well or similar to it so that would be effected by throttling as well??
I have spoken to TalkTalk about this....... No No sorry "TRIED" to talk to them about it but they always fob me off with: "our systems are down call another day" or "when you go over the 80GB fair use limit per month your speed will slow" (but it was like it from day 1 and never improves), or of course "it's not our fault its someone elses fault"! Oh and not to mention the over charges, taking 2 payments for 1 months bill or just "ACCIDENTLY" always cutting me off when I try to ask a techy question.

So what I would really like is a bit of none biased help and advice on what ISP would be best for me, to improve my downloading speeds during the day and not worrying about a limit. Or any help if maybe its my phone line that is [censored] or my exchange or to be on LLU or ADSL or anything I'm just lost

Sky have a good reputation on LLU, but it only makes sense if you have/want Sky TV.

Some ISPs resell C&W LLU. Have a look at Vivaciti and Uno/Xilo (I think).

This is either contention or shaping, I would guess TT are probably trottling you based on your usage.

Either way, the best option on your exchange would be Sky by a mile....

TT throttle P2P unmercifully for everyone.

I didn't know there was an 80GB FUP on Pus though! See their FUP. Hard to see where 80GB comes in there, as that is what you get with the normal Boost.

It does give details of the P2P throttling, and to my reading implies that on Plus that is the only thing that should affect you. Seeing as there is nothing to upgrade you to. However, as with most FUPs, it is rather woolly.

Well I never knew there was a FUP either and according to half a dozen of their customer service agents there isn't! The thing is I have spoken to soooo many of their customer service agents and advanced customer services agents and tech support and advanced tech support and super doper please don't leave TT tech support and they all give different answers! lol
The latest one if you can believe it is as soon as I get though they ask why am I calling so I say "I would like to see if there is any progress on why my P2P speeds are so bad?" They then immediately say "Oh I see there is a restriction on your account I'll remove that for you now...... all done sir anything else?". lol :-\ So I ask "hang on why is there a restriction on my account?" BUT they don't know! Customer service say its because my bill is over due (which it has never been once) or maybe its a system glitch. Then tech support say there is no restriction on my account but I'm such a massive user I have gone way over the FUP which they say exists but customer service say doesn't lol :-\ But this mysterious restriction can appear on my account 2/3 times in 1 day but only when I speak to basic customer service LOL!!

OH AND GET THIS!! I sh*t you not a matter of minute after I posted this question on here unbelievably I received an email from TalkTalk saying their fricking prices are going up again as of October "I nearly wet myself laughing" so I jumped straight on the phone to sky and they offered me a much cheaper deal and I got in writing "COMPLETELY unlimited usage NO FUP", plus a tech support guy said to quote him that "Sky do NOT under any circumstances throttle, shape or any other way of saying it adjust the speed and bandwidth of which you can download or upload P2P traffic". Great...... But then that's what TalkTalk said repeatedly!

Only other slight problem which is of course caused by TalkTalk I've got to pay to have a new line installed as TalkTalk won't give up mine so I would have to wait 2 months before I could swap and pay think it was about £50.

Are you still in the minimum contract period? if so you would maybe have to pay a reasonable fee for each month remaining, There may also be other charges from stalk stalk,just make sure that you cancel in accordance with their T&C's (personally i would write a formal letter of notice to cancel in 30days and send recorded post, keeping the part given by p.o to track it, for P.O.D ) But you would need a working bt line most probably to switch to sky, A s for talk talk not giving up your line, b/s they have to ,it's bt's line at the end of the day You can return to donor (BT) F.O.C but not sure if you would enter into a new12-18mths contract for phone or not, but the post office can also take over your line and as far as i can tell there is no min contract, but if you wanted to keep the line bt based you can with sky i think, instead of like you are now fully llu'd with stalk stalk, my advice would be to keep the line bt based never go down the fully llu path,stay with (SMPF) then switching isp is easier and quicker and usually free, I'm not too sure but can sky not just switch you onto their network without the rtd bit,? i would ask them if you don't mind going full llu again

You will need to find out from TT when your contract ends,possibly paying to leave early or cancelling inline with their terms

Sky can install a new line from £39 ,however you will be on Sky's network and in the same position you are now should you wish to change at a later date.
Bt return to donor is i believe £30 and a 18 month contract
Idnet transfer of Talk Talk line around £45? 1 month contract,classed as Bt line so you can use any ISp including Sky or even idnet
Post Office transfer from free
Post Office new line £110 no minimum term but if you cancel or transfer within 6 months of new line £15 charge applies

Sky is truly unlimited/unthrottled at the moment on their LLU and at £15 without a TV package is a great deal
Taking Sky Talk would give a reduction of £5 a month but DO NOT take sky line rental.

Yeah I have 5 months left with them but because of the over charges in would still pay me to cancel it asap.
Yeah I am probably going to get Sky to put in a new line for me I know that means I will be stuck again or find it hard to move but I've only heard a few bad things about Sky so I don't mind trying them for a year, they can't be any fecking worse than TT and Tiscali for that fact, as I was with them before TT and had the same problems and even worse over charges! Funny that they failed to mention they are the same [censored] company when I joined!!

This is the one part I'm really quite rubbish on "LLU", "ADSL", ADSL2...... etc.. I'm not great on the differences and which is better or based on my exchange which would better for me :-\

Also (# Boysteve #) why the "DO NOT take Sky phone line"??? It's cheaper than BT plus it makes the BB cheaper. Why whats the down points???

The "do not take sky rental" is purely because you will be in the same situation as now should you want to move broadband in the future.
You do not need sky rental to benefit from the broadband reduction,Sky Talk is all that is needed, freetime or unlimited,either will get you the £5 discount.

I think for new subscribers taking both broadband and Sky Talk there is no choice. It changed last year. See this News Article.
