Should I stick with LLU?

[link to this post]

Hello, new here

I'm on the Ashbourne exchange.

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/EMASBOU

Currently with Orange, have been for over 5 years, as then Wanadoo. I have RETENTION Broadband Plus £9.99 - Up to 8 Meg speed, 2GB usage allowance. Can't say what my month usage is, but we watch a lot of HD iplayer, iTunes movies, xbox360 HD streams, and some online gaming over xbox.

My experience with Orange is very very very poor customer service, but internet connection service has been good. Every time I try and leave they offer me 6 months free, or half my line rental etc. I would like to combine an anytime telephone package in place of my BT line rental, with my broadband, ideally O2. And I would like a wireless N router, as PC and xbox both have N adapters.

Which gets me back to my Subject question - do I / should I stick with LLU operator, which Orange and TalkTalk are for the Ashbourne exchange?

Stay with Orange LLU. It is reliable and fast; you don't need to use their lousy CS. Your usage limit is probably actually 10 Gb, altho' it says 2 Gb on Your Account.

Post your router stats and we can see if it is worth upgrading to one of their modern 20 Meg packages?

Don't go with TT LLU. There is much discontent with them and they take over your phone line from BT, making it hard to migrate to another ISP in future.

O2 LLU would be an ideal choice, but you don't have it in your area. Under no circumstances go with O2 Access non-LLU. It is very unreliable by all reports.

Agreeing with XRaySpex.

O2 Access is not a good idea as it is non-LLU, and any non-LLU you get is subject to BT Wholesale DLM (Dynamic Line Mismanagement). Except they omit the "mis" when describing it.

Stick with Orange LLU!

"N" wireless will only speed up transfers between machines on your LAN, it won't speed up the internet connections. It may, and only may, improve the wireless coverage and performance though.

You might improve the wireless a bit by downloading InSSIDer and seeing what other wireless stations/channels overlap yours. Perhaps then select a channel as far away as possible.

That's a bit pot and kettle , as most of the discontent is about there telephone customer services , which is what the OP is saying about Orange .

There is nothing to choose between Orange and TalkTalk , apart from one you can leave your line with BT and the other saves you money .

Isn't it likely the OP is doing quite a bit of P2P downloading, from the usage description? TT throttle that to death.

How or which "other" saves you money? Orange Home Ultra @ £24 pm (without Orange Mobile) vs. TalkTalk Plus @ £26.48 pm? Both 20 Meg BB + Unlimited FUP + inclusive anytime UK calls i.e. like with like.

As far as I am aware, and I could be wrong, but TalkTalk throttle P2P on their 'essentials' product now but they do not on their 'Plus' product. They used to throttle on both. This all could change later in your contract if you sign up with them, but I am pretty certain that is the case.

Possibly you are right, but I read the T & Cs carefully only a couple of days ago and I reckoned they say they throttle it. Even on Plus.

I admit I'm not sure though.

Why I was looking was because someone on Plus had contacted support about poor speeds and had been told they were a heavy user so were being throttled. For using over 80GB, which is the Boost allowance.

That could have been a poorly trained support person, or it could have been true. Can't remember at the moment where the thread was.

There is no mention of usage apart from the OP saying

The OP is on
Broadband Plus £9.99 - Up to 8 Meg speed, 2GB usage allowance.

Which turns out has a 10gig usage limit .

There is no mention of P2P and im confused why you think the OP is using P2P

If the OP is living with in his 10gig limit on Orange why would he need TalkTalk Plus ?

Iif you don't mind doing the figures For TalkTalk Essential 40 gig Vs Orange Broadband Plus 10gig

Edit : Dont forget to add line rental or take it away As the case may be . I cant argue with you about Orange prices as its got to be the most confusing price structure of any company i have ever clapped eyes on
