Moving on from Plusnet/Force9

[link to this post]

Been looking for the past couple of days for a nice ISP that offers unlimited download with a good fair use policy and seems to turn a blind eye to pirating. It's asking a lot but I want something as close as possible.

O2 and Be seemed perfect, unfortunately they're already at capacity on my exchange from what I can tell.

Sky seemed like a good choice till I noticed they don't like pirating, at all.

So now I'm stuck, who the hell do I go for?

I think you'll find that all ISPs have a clause in their T&Cs that allow them to terminate your contract if you use the connection for illegal purposes.

They'd doubtless ignore the odd MP3, but if you get caught with wholesale downloading of pirated material they might well invoke that clause to protect themselves.

I think you'll find that no ISP in this country would want to be pointed out as ignoring piracy. They would probably find themselves under significant scrutiny if they did.

Most ISPs will not proactively monitor the data flowing over the network to determine piracy. But, if they get a court order then they will almost certainly respond to it.

No matter the moral, legal, or any other argument piracy is generally looked at as being "illegal" and ISPs will generally follow any legal requirements in the enforcement process.

At a guess I would say that pretty much all ISPs would treat piracy pretty much the same. O2 and Be certainly don't turn a "blind eye" but they are not going to spend a fortune trying to enforce copyright when they probably feel it is down to the copyright holders to do that job.
