Charity connection - ADSL - BT Only enabled exchange

Hi,

Any reccomendations for an ISP to meet the following

1) For a charity - Any special prices appreciated
2) Unlimited bandwidth - As we won't be able to monitor use and don't want to get a massive bill
3) Market 1 exchange - I.e. Only BT Wholesale ADSL Max is available
4) 768Kbps upload speed (I forget what Wholesale call this)
5) Limited / ideally no traffic shaping - this is optional
6) UK based support

I think that is an impossible combination, and why won't you be able to monitor usage? There are several free usage monitor programs available, though they don't work with games consoles and the like. What will be connecting?

Requirement 5, is there a typo as I don't understand the "Limited"?

Incidentally the non-448 upload is 832kbps, usually only on "Business" or "Premium type" connections. Which cost more.

I doubt you'll find any company that can meet all three of these specifically without compromising the other as there is no such thing as "unlimited" on a market 1 exchange with only ADSL Max as an option.

Goscomb fullfill all your options for £100 a month.
If you can limit yourself to 120GB they do what you want for £40 a month.
If 20GB then we are down to £18 with that provider with a 20GB safety net!!

What the connection will be used for is key as 40GB may effectively be unlimited as far as your use is concerned.

Thanks for all your responses.

The difficulty with monitoring bandwidth is that the PCs will be used by members of the public, so although I can monitor it, we will struggle to iimpact people's use. We could of course place a bandwidth limitation per connection, which is probably not unreasonable. By the sound of it, this might be the best approach.

In req 5 - I was trying to say very little traffic shaping.. limited wasn't the best way to word it.

You might want to think about what the "members of the public" are going to be doing with these PCs, and maybe say a bit about it (and why you think fast upstream is important).

For example if there is no practical method for them to store data or take it away (no removable media, no USB ports, no hard drive space), eg they are just emailing, surfing, and printing, you may find you don't need much data at all. If you start allowing iPlayer, YouTube, and other bandwidth-heavy stuff then the requirement goes up somewhat, but...

On the other hand if these PCs have the potential to be (ab)used as (for arguments sake) community P2P engines, you'll have some serious traffic management to think about.

Someone will want to make sure this kind of use is legal on the contract in question, and that the charitable organisation is suitably protected in the event of a user abusing the connection somehow.
