You are just about 0.5 to 1 Meg below what your line is capable of.

There is no reason why you should get any less on Orange and you might get more.

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU => 2010: Orange 15.6 Meg LLU => 2011: Orange 16.8 Meg Untweaked WBC

i have been with orange for a few years now and apart from the occasional hiccup you get as with any ISP i have had no probs, am getting good d/l speed with unlimited usage for £20 pm, as i have been informed that Orange are now using their own servers and not depending on others.

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results/id/1...

not to bad for the UK speeds, and 24/7, unlimited.

my advice is to get independant speed test from other ISP's before you change, go to their home pages and do a speed test on your line, see what others can offer 1st.
hope this helps Doug.

What held for years is no longer relevant.

Quite the reverse! Orange have got rid of their LLU network and handed over to BT entirely. Now you are either on BT IPStream in 20CN exchanges or BT WBC in 21CN ones. As you would have seen by reading this thread.

Thanks XRaySpeX and everyone else for their advice and help.I think the staff plan offers Unltd Broadband and Anytime calls and line rental for £11.50, so I've got to go for it. Every penny helps!

Thanks again.

BT. They have a compelling product that people are buying. France Telecom have more or less run up the white flag for Orange in the UK broadband market.

Orange are still selling BB. It is essentially BT at a cheaper price.

Since they handed off to BT I have found Orange WBC fast and reliable and good value-for-money.

i live very close to the exchange and am with orange. at very best my speed is 5mb. in your rural area 2 / 2.5 sounds about right.

based on the recent ofcom customer satisfaction results (Ofcom ISP Customer Satisfaction Survey) i would stick to orange over b.t

scanmyspeed is useless! It gives me ridiculous Down speeds of 0.4, 0.7, 0.8 and even zero Mbps, whereas everyone else measures it consistently at over 15 Meg.

Where's their server? Timbuctoo?
