Hi,
I'm an occasional downloader and gamer who would like a connection capable of HD video. I'm hoping I can get a 20Mg ADSL2+ line for around £20/month inclusive of line rental.
I'd rather not be on a traffic shaped line if I can help it, but if the price is right I'd be willing to re-consider. Likewise on the speed. A 10Mg line would still give me the speed I need to view HD video without stuttering I think.
Sky seem to be doing an offer that fits the bill at the moment with their 6 month half price deal. Downsides are 12 month contract and I understand it can be difficult to migrate away from Sky at the end of contract due to the line rental being with them too. Upside is an N wireless router is included.
1) Does anyone know of any other deals I should be considering other than the Sky unlimited package?
A few questions on the Sky deal for those that know:
2) Does the wireless router have to be returned at the end of contract?
3) How long does it typically take for Sky to setup the connection if migrating from a BT line?
Thanks in advance for any replies

What's your exchange & current router stats?

I've checked on the SamKnows website and the exchange has ADSL, SDSL, LLU, cable but no wireless.
It looks like I have most of the options available to me. LLU options include: AOL, BE/O2, C&W/Bulldog, Orange, Sky/Easynet, TalkTalk and Tiscali.

Another thing to check is whether Virgin Media are available?

Also, what about 21CN WBC? Post the link so we can see.

The Samknows page for the exchange has everything ticked in the BT Wholesale box, including 21CN WBC Status.
I am enabled for Virgin also.
I do not want to post my exchange due to security.
Is Sky unlimited my best option?

I do not want to post my exchange due to security. Why? Are you the only person served by your exchange?

Is Sky unlimited my best option? Hi, I cant make out Sky broadband prices and it looks like you have to take their TV as well.

Hi, I cant make out Sky broadband prices and it looks like you have to take their TV as well.
http://www.sky.com/shop/broadband-talk/broadband-opt... "You can now take Sky Broadband with inclusive evening & weekend UK# calls for £10 a month without taking Sky TV when you take Sky Line Rental"
Linky.
However, the nasty is that apparently since 1 September you have to take Sky line rental, ie Full LLU (MPF).

Nerrrr! I dont want Sky, I prefer to be with BT and paying Orange.
Although my connection has been dropping all through yesterday afternoon and all day today, I think they must have been working on the exchange, because it all came back about 4:30pm now everythings back up and working okay.

The OP's choice surely. An exchange alone may not pinpoint him/her but in combination with other data it might.

said he would rather not be traffic shaped, so virgin media wouldnt be a option.

Thanks for the replies guys. The Sky broadband half price offer looks to be the best value at the moment.
The downside is being forced to take line rental with Sky.
How long does would I be likely to lose my broadband if I changed to a different provider after the 12 month lock-in finished?
