Hi All,
FTTC was just installed in my local area (woohoo!!). Anyway, my current broadband subscription has ended, its on a rolling 7 contract now and im looking for an fttc connection now.
I was going to go with Plusnet, however they require you to have your landline with them as well or they cant provide you with the broadband only, same applied to BT. This wouldnt be an issue, except that my line rental is tied in elsewhere.... doh!
Can anyone suggest a decent company at a decent price (need a bare minimum 100gb usage) that will take my broadband only?
Thanks in advance

I think somewhere between you and Plusnet someone has got confused.
I am 99% sure you can have Plusnet FTTC on someone els'e line, as long as the line rental company allow it. Who is it with?
As you say, BT do require the line rental to be with themselves.

nope, its part of the agreement when signing up with Plusnet that the line rental goes with it, there is no option to not have it with them

Just double checked, every option with them has £11.99 line rental added on and theirs no option to remove it!

You are looking on the "bundle" pages! Try this one.
Oops! That is ADSLx. Here's the Fibre standalone one.

All Partial LLU (SMPF) ISPs, incl. Plusnet, require you to have a BT Wholesale WLR line (obtained via BT, PO, Plusnet, O2 and maybe a few others). For example: You'll need a Plusnet or other BT based landline to get our broadband. Both Full LLU (MPF) ISPs, Sky & TT, require your line to be with themselves.

Just while Im on the subject, you may beable to help me a little further here! I do quite a bit of online gaming but Ive always had unlimited usage so never had any issues, Ive no idea how much usage my gaming takes up, any idea how I can easily find out? (just im limited to 120gb on Plusnet)

Gaming generally does not take up much.
You could load your PC with NetMeter or tbbMeter and measure it.

Ill give it a try, its gonna take at least 3 weeks for the engineer to come to my house to get my new socket in, so I have plenty of time to test!
thanks for all your help guys, sorted me right out!

Gaming itself uses very little allowance. It's the downloading of the games and updates to them that uses a fair bit, but I'm not a gamer myself so have no actual figures.
Note that on Plusnet there is an unlimited period overnight that you could use for those downloads if you found the 120GB was dodgy.
Have you any idea of how much you use at the moment?
What you do need is the Pro option for gaming! This traffic management applies to Fibre as well as ADSLx, as it is internal to the Plusnet network, and this page gives details of the speed caps.

If you allow 10 Kilo Bytes per second?
Or 360 MB / hour of play, you can figure out how many hours you have. In practice likely to be lower, as above allows for some voice traffic, e.g. in game chat
