Re: Will my speed decrease ?

Im guessing, probably wrongly, if I put a phone into the test socket then this will answer the question.

If there is a problem with the wire, and that is in the socket I normally use, would it affect the test socket...if that makes sense ?

The router at the moment is in the test/master socket.

Yes, you need a (preferably corded) phone plugged directly into the test sockt. No filter, no router. If it doesn't work then it is a line fault to report to your phone line rental company. It would be a good idea to do the Quiet line test first. 17070 option 2 - it should be silent. (I assume in fact the line is with TT as well as the broadband). Don't mention the broadband issue as that could send them off on the wrong track.

It's unlikely to be the incoming wire detached inside the rear section of the master, but even if it is that is their problem - they need to get Openreach out to fix it.

It is more likely it is outside the premises.

But if the phone works fine, back to square one. A broadband issue.

You can get a cheap corded phone from many places. Useful to have. We have one tucked away in a cupboard.

Thanks for your advice, I followed it and got a cheap corded phone to plug in.
The result was that there wasnt even a dialing tone, so I rang TT, who wouldnt let me record it as a seprate fault or even go through to a different department.

They run more tests, and was adamant that there was nothing wrong with the line, but as they couldnt argue with the fact the phone was not working an engineer to get in contact within 48 hours.

Also if you ring the number from a mobile, its engaged, does this mean anything ?

Dunno. But if the line was with BT they would now have any incoming calls diverted to your mobile for you,(OK there aren't any), and a small credit on your bill every day the landline doesn't work.

Anyway, at least we know the cause, and the phone fix will fix the broadband.

Thanks for your help.

Despite TT's insistance that it was an internal loop, someone came out and identifed the problem as being a corroded wire, and also sky inserting an extra wire that was not helping the broadband conectivity.

Without your advice, I dont think I would have been confident enough to have the engineer round as TT were adamant I would have to pay.

Think I shall leave moving at the moment as the speed, altough only 3mb, given my luck would be lower should I go elsewhere smile

Once again thanks !!

Great smile.

It isn't easy to tell on a line as long as yours appeared to be in that first set of stats whether there is any further improvement possible, but my feeling at the moment form those stats and the fact it is TT is that you may be able to get more, both from TT and from pretty well anywhere else you went to.

If you do a reconnection during daylight, then take the stats immediately afterwards and post those, I'll have what I need to know smile

In reply to a post by RobertoS:
I don't think it does really these days. Instant updates, and 88.28% of profile. Depends how much of that 88.28% can be turned into real throughput of course, but for example on O2/Be it is impossible to get throughput above 84% of sync.

This is incorrect BT Profile only do 88.23% maximum (not 88.28%)

Hi, hope this covers the line stats

Mode. Adsl2
Type annex 2
Rate 2823 Downstream
764 upstream
SNR margin 8 down
9 up
Att 60 down
35.6 up
Output up 12.3

I don't know what any of that means, and can't understand why it says asdl2??

What time of day did you connect, (daylight connections are best), and are you using a different router from before?

Hi, it was today I turned it on and off, and yes they sent me another router that they said was better.

It was not connected to the master socket though, does that make a difference?
