Short contract, decent allowance

My cousin has just moved into a flat near to the middle of town and has asked me to figure out which is the best ISP for him to go for.

As mentioned he's close to the middle of town so speeds will be decent on ADSL2. FTTC is available in our town but he needs as short a contract as possible which likely rules that out. Uses PC and xbox live and seems to download a fair amount so decent or "unlimited" usage likely to be the simplest.

So summary

Short contract (rolling or 6 months or less)
Likely ADSL based due to the contract requirements.
Good allowance
Preferably cheap as possible.

Any takers? o2 seem to have some packages that fit. Any other ISPs?

Freeola and Zen are two of the best ISPs and both have no contract tie-in, but neither are bargain basement.

FTTC is mainly based on 12 month min contracts at present.
We can provide services based on 30 day based min term contracts.

A couple of the more expensive ISPs (Zen for one IIRC) offer 3 or 1 month contracts. Most cheaper options will come with a 12 month or more minimum for ADSL just like FTTC.

Be offer three month contracts on all but their cheapest option, but you pay extra per month for having that instead of a 12 month starting contract (£25/mo instead of £22/mo for the middle tier which is probably what you want out of their options). They may be the best choice for your cousin assuming they have got the recent peering/routing problems sorted out. I was a fairly heave user on their service for 2.5 years before switching to FTTC - in that time I saw no reason to doubt the "unlimited, unthrottled, unshaped" claim and latency was always good too (they let you tweak line settings that affect this from their control panel, which might be attractive if your cousin is a big gamer and wants to try be an LPB!).

12Mb lite unlimited looks good. Pretty sure he can absorb the £49.99

OK, so there are a few options there for a short term monthly contract, and some options with no activation fee either.
