Which ISP (no LLU)

[link to this post]

Hi

A relative has asked me for advice - what's his best option for low usage on an exchange with only ADSL Max available (Maze)?

Price is important to him but as we all know it's not everything, also packages are fine as he is out of contract (currently has a phone line without ADSL).

Thanks

Have you checked FTTC is not available to him? Some areas of Maze have it, even though only ADSL Max is there on ordinary broadband.

The best checker for that is this one, using the phone number. The address one is probably OK, but the post code one unreliable.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,website and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 55.8/14.5Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

Unfortunately its not, only ADSL Max at "up to 1" Mbps. Thanks for the info though.

Use samknows.com to see what service providers are available to them.

If the relative has SKY TV and SKY LLU is available then start the service with that. BB for free or £7.50. Phone line around £15.xx or cheaper if paid as a 1 year one of cost.

Same for talktalk if that is available

You could then use Vivaciti.net if the above is not available..

He doesn't have SKY TV and there are no LLU services available at the exchange (Maze).

Is Vivaciti his best option at £14.56?

Samknows is often so out of date it is often missleading. I had FTTC for almost a year before Samknows stated it was available. Many, many others over the net have posted a similar story. Samknows probably always needs the cavet that it could be hopelessly out of date, especially regards FTTC. Still worth checking but if it's listed it's probably been available for some time!

There is PlusNet Essentials Broadband and calls, at £14.50 for line rental including free weekends and £12.99pm (not the £5.99 shown as "from") for a 12-month term broadband.

Vivaciti however is another ISP that I have often recommended.

Possibly xilo/uno also if he is a light peak time user - £15.49 per month, 10GB usage peak time, unmetered 12am to 8am and at weekends, one month minimum term, static IP and no traffic management. Check availability for the activation fee...

Line rental could also be on a 30 day minimum term with, for example, Zen at £11.22 per month where WLR line rental is mainly needed for broadband.

as you said did not spot the maze reference. It been a long week. that said, its back to the normal ISP providers and I think people like vivaciti via their entanet connection cater for small usage, will work anywhere. If not, its back to the postoffice or other providers.
