Moving to Sky - using own router?

Hi all,

I am currently with Plusnet 80/20 and thinking of moving to Sky Fibre Max (also 80/20) and was wondering if the workaround to make Sky fibre bb work with your own setup still works?

My equipment at the moment consists of an unlocked Huawei HG612 3B modem in bridge mode connected to an Asus RT-AC68U which does the routing/wlan etc.

Yes it does

I believe you need Merlin firmware for the ASUS because you will need to be able to utilise DHCP option 61 otherwise you won't be able to authenticate.

Thanks for your reply - I have been using Merlin firmware on the router for a while now successfully with the Option 61 as you have mentioned. Used format: username@skydsl|password

Option 60 (vendor class) I just left blank and it works. I initially though it was quite tricky with the Wireshark capture etc but they seem to have relaxed it for a while now and as long the format is correct, you can put in whatever username/password you want.
