Does choice of FTTP provider limit future options?

[link to this post]

Hi
I’m currently with Zen FTTC getting 18/3 on a good day. Engineers (I think OR) have been crawling all round town (Malvern) fitting kit to the phone poles. About a month ago I spoke to engineer working on my local pole who told me the pole was now ‘powered up’. Fibre Hero’s sent me a post card saying its live and list of ISPs I can contact. My contract with Zen ends in a couple of weeks at which time I move on to monthly deal at same price. I spoke with Zen who say they can’t at present offer FTTP but try again in a few weeks. OR checker says FTTP should be available before end 2026.

So, my question: If I jump ship and switch to someone like IDNet who use FibreHeros/Altnet, is this likely to prevent me switching to an OR backed supplier in the future? Other option is stay with Zen and hope OR come good in next couple of months. I can wait until summer but not beyond.

FibreHeros is a separate network from Openreach FTTP so presumably you could have both at the same time.

They are separate networks so having one installed doesn't influence the availability of the other.

It looks like Lit Fibre are going to be the first to connect me, but it is my intention to get Openreach FTTP installed as well on a 1-month contract so that the connection is made and the ONT is in place so that it can be activated easily in the event of any issues with my primary provider without having to have a physically installation carried out.

Thanks for the advice. IDNet have a 500/500 service at a very attractive price. May leave it a couple of months to see if Zen come good before I jump ship.
