I doubt it will make much difference, to be honest.

Surely the future of TalkTalk should be considered?
Backhaul Congestion maybe?
Price?
Contract Period?
DV differences between the two companies?
Problem resolution abilities?
Uptime?
Consistency of speed?

Don't you bother about any of the above?

Don't Vodafone only offer FTTC and FTTP?

So I don't think you have the option if you are ADSL only? I just checked an address that I know is ADSL only and it says "sorry broadband is not available at your address" on the Vodafone site.

I'm guessing the OP just means DSL service, i.e. VDSL via FTTC, but they should clarify this.

If you have things that you consider to be a priority then it's worth mentioning those so people can give you a better answer. If you say nothing about a 'landline' voice service then people will assume you don't need one, for example.

OP here. My apologies here for not being crystal clear on my request for information. Can we please start over?

I am out of contract with TalkTalk with a FTTC service. Having carried out due diligence it appears switching to Vodaphone would be a good choice. Not worried about losing the landline facility nor desiring a DV service; just FTTC please. I as seeking the experience of current Vodaphone whether their offering was any good and one things go down the pan, their proficiency of resolving proplems.

When I recently categories providers for an up coming switch on FTTP I put both TalkTalk and Vodafone into the "no way" pile, not great ISP's in my opinion. What have you read that makes you believe different as I would be interested to know.

I know people who are on or have been on Vodafone FTTC - no great surprise as VF are a mass market ISP.

I haven't heard of any particular issues with the service they had. One of them had an initial difficulty ensuring they were charged the correct introductory promotional price, but did get that resolved.

They also had success in having Vodafone (VF) get Openreach around to fix an issue with their copper dropwire entering the house from the pole - though I think this was actually an issue created by their builder (who'd had scaffolding up I think) cutting the wire and then bodging a junction box together badly! Fairly sure they didn't get charged for that (as strictly speaking they probably should have). Both interactions were a few years ago when Vodafone were pushing to enter the home broadband market and gain market share, so maybe things might be a bit different now.

As stated above, VF are a mass market ISP so don't expect miracles from them. I think there have been some issues in the past where their backhaul was struggling to keep up with demand but I think these have been temporary issues. I think VF by and large uses their own backhaul network (ex Cable & Wireless Communications) which, apart from the aforementioned short term capacity issues, I haven't heard any major complaints about.

Ultimately if you want an ISP with less scripted and more personal and responsive customer service then you need to pay a bit extra for it.
