Happy with A&A, but need to save some cash.

As I approach retirement, I'm looking at going part-time.
I can't really justify £55 for A&A any more, so looking at Zen, IDNet, Uno, Aquis. Anyone else I should consider?
Uno won't supply me with a 80Mbps service, so that's them out. Zen - 18 month contracts. IDNet or Aquis then?

If you are looking for FTTP and don't have any altnet provision, only OR, then rule IDnet out. IDNet are single sourced on Zen wholesale for OR FTTP connections. The ZenW network is just too flaky to be able to recommend it to you.

I'd rule Zen out for the same reason.

If you are on FTTC, I'm not sure who IDNet are currently using as providers, bit when I joined them about 5 yaers ago, they were using OR, TTBw and ZenW. At the time they were very flexible about moving me between providers, but their position may have hardened since then, so I would wait and see what others say.

Aquiss are a solid option.

Noone Internet also seem to be well thought of.

Sorry I missed out important details. Looking for FTTC SoGEA service.

I had problems with Zen in the past, so reluctant to take a long contract with them. Interesting to note other companies use their backhaul.

I use Plusnet FTTC which is much cheaper.

12 years with Plusnet FTTC here.
Support is basic but I don't need it, the service is 24*7 which is all I ask of my ISP.

A&A are really expensive. Do they have no interest in the home user market?

They appeal to a specific market segment. That doesn't include 'mass market' customers.

I was in this situation 18 months ago, and I went for Aquiss. I am tempting fate here but my 300/45 FTTP connection hasn’t missed a single heartbeat. I have no idea how good Aquiss support is as I have never needed to call them.

I went with Aquiss about 8 months ago. There was a network blip a little while back that caused high latency which caused problems with conferencing calls and network slow downs, it lasted about a day I think and seemed to be something in one of the interconnects, Aquiss were good but I think in this case it was one of their suppliers that had the issue. Other than that the connection has been good and is a fair price.
