Advice of my plans

[link to this post]

We're with BT on FTTC 55/10 with data and phone. No sign of Openreach FTTP as of yet. Hey! knocked on the door last night but I'll probably give them a miss. VM is available with the Gig1, M500, M250, M225 options - but I'll probably also pass. BT wrote to me in July 2023 saying we're switching you to DV. I deferred them. When the BT contract ends in Sept 2024 I assume they will offer me a renewal with DV.

I plan to:

- Move my data supplier (and convert to SOGEA at the same time - releasing the landline number) to a small provider that has a good reputation. Source a new modem/router because my Netgear R7800 had its last firmware update in 2022. A possibility would be to flash the R7800 with Openwrt. Any new modem/router would have VDSL, 1GB WAN, WiFi6 and possibly a FXS port. This would allow it be used in the future with FTTP. 1GB will be ample for us.
- Within 31 days approach a VOIP provider and ask them to pick up my released landline number and convert it to VOIP.
- I don't need to keep any BT related email addresses - I have MS and Google equivalents.
- I will lose part of EE TV (the channel) but I don't watch it. The EE TV is a legacy PAYG product with zero fee.
- I will lose a 10% multi product discount and extra double 10GB data on my EE mobile - but we'll be moving from EE mobile later.

Questions:
- Can anyone see and gotchas or concerns?
- Would you use the R7800 without it being supported?
- The small provider is specifying a 12Mb/s minimum download speed guarantee on their 80/20 service with a 55/9 anticipated figure. I'm away above that - see IP4 and IP6 speed tests below. Am I likely to see any issues with a change in provider? The wife would not be happy. Happy wife, happy life.
