YouFibre coming to my area

[link to this post]

https://www.youfibre.com/ have installed in my part of town and have said they'll be providing service in my street soon. BTOR completed FTTH at my nearest telegraph pole a few months ago and it seems that YouFibre are somehow piggy-backing off of that, but if that's the case then how would that work?
BT's FTTH offerings are asymmetric at 900Mbps/115Mbps download/upload whereas YouFibre offer up to 7Gbps symmetrical speeds and are actually slightly cheaper for their full gigabit service, so I'd rather use them than BT and the other BTOR-dependent ISPs.
Does anyone know whether YouFibre are completely using their own fibre or are they using BT's?
And is anyone using YouFibre? What are they like and how reliable are they?

TIA

They are using their own network, but use Openreach poles and ducts to get it to you. So nothing to do with Openreach.
Up to 7,000Mb/s, wow, that is a fair bit of speed, I doubt any home user will ever need that.
I see they use the Eero routers, still not sure about those.

If they are coming to you, then go for it.

Can confirm, I can also confirm that all areas as of early next year will have 50G PON meaning services upto 50Gbps symmetric. Not too many details out there yet but spoke with Jeremy a little while ago about it so things should be progressing well.

Many Thanks,

I have my own Asus AX mesh setup already so I'd just continue use that, but the router they supply with their ridiculously high bandwidth services is a top-flight Asus gaming router that retails for £500!

Why would you need 50Gb/s?

i wonder why most people need 1Gb/s, apart from being able to.

Yeah, if it works then yes.

I am sure these router manufactures pout gaming on the name so they can charge stupid prices. I can imagine gamers, saying, WOW, a gaming router, we must buy that.

12 years ago. Similar question, different numbers, same answers with different numbers. No doubt could you making the same comment several times but not spending the time on it. Refer back to earlier replies: 1 Gb is the new 80 Mb which was the new 40 Mb which was the new... etc smile

You say that, 1Gbps is slow when your working with 20+GB files, I regularly upload and download 80 Gig VHD files so even with a gig symmetric it feels slow.

I'm obviously extremely happy with it and can't complain but there are use cases. I know when I got back from holiday and did the usual holiday data dump the network was saturated for about 8 hours.

Forgot to mention that addiotnal editing and exported files contributed to that time, as did software updates and the usual onedrive re-syncs etc

Many Thanks,

I know, I remember it, but things these days are very different and yes I said the same thing when I was on FTTC.

Moradin was correct about everything coming down fibre, at the time of that post, I was still watching Freerview and DVD, I was renting DVD by post using lovefilm. Then when I started streaming ADSl was okay, but it was a bit iffy, that is why I went to Allpay wireless broadband. Not for great speed, but just enough to be able to stream reliably.

It did not work out so well with All pay not being able to cope, so in February 2015 I left and went to FTTC as that was just getting started here then. It was useful for downloading software. i was lucky that in the 9 years i was on it, i had good deals.
as most people here would know, I would have stayed on FTTC, but plusnet was pushing me to go onto FTTP, not giving me a decent deal on FTTC. So if i had to move to FTTP, I may as well go with a better network.

This is where we are now. Do I need the 500Mb/s I have now? Nope, not really, I was going to reduce to a slower speed when my contract was over, but I did not.
It has been useful, sometimes when I have redone the PC and some other machines.

Different times now as I said before, with more and more content being shown online, now I don't even watch normal TV, don't have the aerial connected. Most of what I watch now is online, apart from some stuff I watch on DVD/Blu-ray.

As for running software online, i have not done that and still would not do that.
