Basic broadband for business

[link to this post]

I'm a trustee of a charity with FTTC provided by BT. It's 80/20 giving actual 55/20 due to distance from fibre cabinet. No prospect of FTTP or a non-openreach supplier at our location. We were happily with Plusnet until they discontinued business products. There was a special offer for BT which we took. The connection is fine but the admin and billing has been horrendous. Our contract expires in a few months and we have no wish to stay with BT.

Any suggestions for an alternative ISP? All we need is a basic 80/20 connection at low cost. Under £25+VAT per month is the target. Along with better customer service than BT (which wouldn't be difficult!).

Any suggestions?

Have a peep at the Top 10 Broadband ISPs on somewhere that doesn't have skin in the game like here or ISPReview.

Cost is no guide to quality - and remember that inexpensive is not always a synonym for cheap.

I doubt you're getting what you want for that budget, good support is the most expensive bit to provide.

I'm a Vodafone customer with a business SOGEA service that costs £20+VAT each month, it's never gone wrong so I haven't had to use the support, which I understand to be quite poor.

I don't think we need especially good support. We just need a basic SOGEA service. We'd be perfectly happy with a domestic grade SOGEA service but as a business user we can't get it.

In the several years we've been with Plusnet and then BT we've not yet had any technical problems. Just BT hassle with billing and offshore call centres when trying to deal with it.

For top rated service Zen are offering basic 80/20 SOGEA for £29+VAT on an 18 month contract. We might be tempted.

In ye olde times, Zen was always regarded as one of the very best ISPs. Perhaps they've gone bad. Though in fairness a lot of that problem seemed to be down to Openwretch.

Thanks for the suggestion. Their website https://www.uno.uk/packages/sogea-broadband/ doesn't make it clear if they are aimed at business users though the (very) small print says the prices exclude VAT so it seems likely. Static IP as standard is a nice touch. We don't need it at the moment but might in the future.

The difference between Solo+ and Solo+ Pro doesn't seem clear.

Click on the information icon next to the product name, the Pro variants use the Vodafone network while others use BT Wholesale
