Please Hellp Me

[link to this post]

Whenever I double click on my computer icon it fails to open up and a message comes up about data execution prevention. When I try to get into the control panel does also does not work and comes up with the same message. What is causing this problem and how do I solve it.

Thanks

The only thought that hit me was: is your AV and firewall up to date and working correctly? Anything beyond that and you'll need a more techy person, sorry.

Found this on the MS site, read the whole page and see if the settings have been changed in the Device Manager > Advanced > Performance Settings > Advanced > Data Execution Prevention area, or in the Boot.ini file.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875352

You have to be logged in as Admin or have Admin rights to configure it all.

About halfway down the page, it gives instructions to get to the area I mentioned above.

EG. 1. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.

JohnnyR.

Say NO! to Capping.

Thanks guys was the help although had fixed it earlier after doing a web search. Everything is up to date so does anyone have an idea of how configuration was changed without me doing it.
