I downloaded IE7 for a friend. When we open IE we get a blue screen with a web address of runonce. There is an error on the page and it never opens properly. IE works fine after that, but how can I stop IE7 opening this useless page? I seem to remember from my install that it's some kind of guide to IE7, telling you how to use tabs etc. Can't find it in any startup menu - where is it hiding?
Surely, if there is a runonce entry for IE in the registry, then setting the start page won't be effective.
You need to vet the registry for the entry in the runonce list (use regedt and search for the key?)

Register (or login) on our website and you will not see this ad.
If your system is stuck at the initial IE7 welcome page, shut down IE, check for the existence of the RunOnceHasShown DWORD and set it to a value of 1.
Wow! Thanks for all the advice. I only ever fiddled with my registry once, in the good old days of 98SE when I kept getting buffer errors and had to set minsipps to a higher value. Just remind me about backing up the registry in XP home - never had to do it!!
